Question about Lexmark Color JetPrinter Z42 InkJet
I now have gone through 6 toner cartridges (black #70) in my Lexmark Z42 in the last four months. I put a cartridge in, do all the cleaning indicated and it prints fine for a while. The cartridge level indicates almost half full when the print begins to break up and eventually I can only print in color. Toner is expensive and this is getting way out of line. This problem began about a year ago. At first I thought the printer needed cleaning so that was done. I use the printer often but not that often. I buy only new cartridges. What's the deal? Thanks.

Your Unisys UDS 25 is actually a Lexmark Optra T612. Are you using OEM cartridges or recharges? If you're using recharges, that would explain the print quality issues. Was it light with the first cartridge as well as the second? The drum "being on its way out" is a moot point since the drum is replaced when you replace the toner, it's all one cartridge. If you have another printer of the same model, try the cartridge in it and see if the problem follows. If it does, it's the cartridge, take it back and get an OEM one. If the problem does not, then you may need a new image transfer roller. Let me know what happens!

First you might want to try and go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>
Double click Printer and Faxes
right click the printer. Then select the services tab. at the very least clean the cartridges.

Reinstall the drivers and see if it works.
Otherwise unplug the printer from the power and leave it without power for 10 minutes. Than plug it back in and let me know if it helped.
