SOURCE: Car wobbles

yes make sure your lug nuts are all tight and the wheels are seated properly on the hubs, if they are tight bring the car to a tire shop and have them balance the two front tires, this will tell you if you have a bent wheel please rate -jeff

SOURCE: death wobble

when they did the alignment did they notice anything broke or missing? most shops will not do alignment unless everything looks brand new. these vehicles along with the cherokee and grand cherokee are notorous for the sway bar end links breaking up towards the top of the link. check that and grad both driveshaft and push up and down and pull side to side on them if there is movement then change the u-joints. when alignment was done did they do 2 or 4 wheel alignment? rear mount could be broke also, depends on what set-up you have and how hard the person before you was on the jeep. they are alot more things this could be also? are the tires wearing different? check all 4 for signs, inside worn more then outside, cupping, feathering etc. just lay your hand flat and run it across the tire should go pretty smooth. this could also be a steering problem, you emntioned that it does not do it all the time? start checking these things if you haven't already and let me know i would love to help im a jeep fan also i own two of them. good luck and let me know

SOURCE: steering wheel wobbles while driving

its most likely the tires out of balance. With car problems its always best to try the most common and cheapest solutions first and that would be having it rebalanced.

SOURCE: Wobbly steering column on 1989 Chevy Silverado 2WD

It is rather complex but it can be done at home. It will also require special tools. The haynes manuals do cover this repair I believe.

Steering wobbles when driving

Improperly balanced wheels can cause the wheels to wobble at speed which can be felt through the steering wheel. A local tyre shop can test the wheels for balance and make the necessary adjustments to the wheels by adding weights to even out the balance.

Death wobble in 4x4 van

Check you steering and duspension system. Check ball joints and steering linkages. With the vehicle in the floor have someone move the steering wheel side to side. Not whole turns just side to side movement while you look at the steering linkage to identify any loose parts. Then raise the vehicle and check your ball joints by grabbing top and bottom of the tires and shaking them.

Why does the 4WD in part time wheel hop when turning but in full time 4WD doesnt do it on a jeep grand cherokee with select track & what is up with that death wobble

Hop when turning generally is caused by a bad (binding)axle joint on the wheel end.
Death wobble is most often traced to worn ball joints but can also be caused by worn tires, excessive play in any of the attachment arm bushings in the front end, worn (oblong) suspension to frame mount holes, or a steering box tearing away from the chassis. Sometimes it is a combination of excessive play in more than one item working together. Careful diagnosis (hands-on examination) is the only way to find and correct it.
Most often the steering stabilizer (sideways shock on steering linkage) is blamed for wobble but in reality it can be damaged by the wobble but nearly never causes it.

2004 Chevy Trailbalzer LT front end wobbles at 55-65 MPH. It will sometimes smooth out at 70 but is intermittent from time to time

Do this first.. drive this vehicle very slowly on a smooth straigh road. If the wobble is noticed you have a broken steel belt in your tire that fluxuates at different speeds causing this to happen

As I am driving the stearing wheel all of a suden start to shake a lot and it does not happen at the same speed nor does it happen all the time. Claude Weaver Phoenix, AZ

What you have is commonly called death wobble. It can be really scary.
Common cause is usually worn ball joints but it can also be caused by a variety of other things...Improperly torqued wheels. steering box tearing off of the chassis, track bar mount or bushing problems or a combination of slight looseness in all steering components giving overall excessive wheel play. The steering damper (sideways shock on linkage) is often blamed but they generally fail as a result of the wobble and are not the cause. If everything has checked carefully and can be verified as good, sometimes adding some positive alignment caster past factory setting can help.

i would suspect somewhere in your front end you have a compliance bushing with excessive movement. these cars front ends depend heavily on these style bushings, and as they wear you can start to see tire wear patterns, looseness in steering, and high speed vibration. make sure you have the front end inspected by a shop that is familier with these types of cars. good luck!

Van shimmes vibrates at speeds 60 to 65 then stops at 70 reduce speed and starts again

This condition is usually caused by a loose front end component, take it in and have it checked, also check for a possible cracked frame rail near the steering box.
