Won't play dvd rom

HI,

There are a number of reasons this could be the case.
I am going to assume that the drive has power!? You can open and close the drive!? I am also going to assume that you can hear the drive running and you can see the green light flickering?

* is it just a single ROM that it wont read... but it will read everything else? Or will it not read any Disc?

Are you trying to read a normal DVD/CD Disc? Some drives will not read a burned disc, even when it was the same drive that burned it!
I wouldn't believe that either, except that I saw it with my own eyes just last week!

Sometimes it is just a loose cable inside the case. Simply removing the cover and reseating the cables to the drive and the motherboard will sometimes fix the issue. *be careful or get someone who knows what they are doing to do this!!!

Baring all that, it is of course possible that the drive has just burned out and is no longer capable of reading discs.

After running a CD burn, PC treats it as a blank disc

Try putting the burned disc into another computer to see if it reads it. If not then it could be an issue with the disc burner itself. The laser could be going bad and that would cause the burner not to burn discs properly.

Unable to read cds /dvds, made by me, of my photos. It will play pre recorded DVDs. ie Palin set. can see files but then computer hangs. Running Vista. Similar occurs on my desktop but I get the blue...

lost of things could be happening ,depending on optical drive manufacturer, file type, plus or minus dvd/cd blank disk and burning software and how you are burning the media, all can cause malfunctions, but if playing a disc causes blue screen of death, then i would first uninstall display adapter driver on graphics card, and restart, when computer finds new hardware, click cancel,go to dell support and get newest driver, and software,reinstall..some optical drives like minus discs, some like plus discs, depending on the drive,if its a combo drive and will read and write both plus and minus discs, then the problem is how you are burning them,or the laser is dirty or drive is malfunctioning.if you arent allready using nero burning software, then i would reccomend it,i have been doing this a long time, had my days of problems,,not anymore,i dont work for nero nor am i paid by them to say this, but i am a computer repair tech with 25+years experience, save yourself hours of pain and wasted blank discs, and purchase it,user friendly ,easy to use ,and advanced drive speed tools ,allow max preformance on any computer, read instructions ,discs must be burned with correct file type for device that plays them back ,disc at once or track at once settings ,matter, also using the slowest burning speed, creates a higher quality disc, but takes longer, post comments if you have more questions ,aloha from maui todd0708

Dvd wont read disc

I would suggest going into the control panel and uninstalling the device from there and then go to the MFG website to get the latest driver possible and reinstall reboot and see if that does the trick

if not updating the firmware would be your next option. Usually this process can fix errors such as yours. Give it a try let me know what happens

I have saved a movie from movie maker and I have tried to burn it to a dvd. I see that it has saved it but it hasn't burned the movie to the dvd. How do I burn it to the dvd.

I beleive that in Windows, when burning something on to disc (be it CD or DVD), you have to go to the actual drive window (via "My Computer" and select "Burn these items to disc". From what I remember of the days I burned discs this then burns the file onto the disc.

Hope this helps!
