Yes, this is rare but I have seen it before--not fixable if it is what I think it is----It is what is called a Dome effect---the shadow mask in the picture tube is actually contracting and or expanding depending on temperature---
Directly behind the phosphor coating (the stripes that you see on the screen) is a metal screen--the holes or perforations in it line up with the stripes on the phosphor screen.
Some masks either have a material or a defect causing the dome effect----Not likely to be anything else---a Pin amp problem will not usually act the way you describe but a shadow mask inside the picture tube will act exactly that way.
Your TV color drivers could be at fault. They run very hot and sometimes develop dry solder. You can confirm this by hitting the side of the TV when its on and see if the color comes back. If they do or even flicker get somebody to resolder the CRT base pcb of the TV.
This tv is a standard CRT(tube tv) wright?Yes,than the tv video board have problem with dying capacitors or the main colors decoders IC require resoldering.U have a soldering iron,a desoldering pump or a roll of desoldering braids,a roll of solders and also understanding basic electronic wright?Take the tv aparts check all those capactors all around the main colors decoders IC for capacitors leakages, replaced all these dying leakages capacitors, will solved this problems. These capacitors alway bulges up or puffing up on it top. That the indication those capacitors are dying and not working to it full capacity. Also resolders the colors decoders IC too.Ur tv problems, will be solved.
You can't adjust because the convergence correction IC' are bad. The 3 you mention Buttons are probably for focus (electronic) and they won't help your problem. If you moved the CRT top lenses they can be re-adjusted and only affect focus (mechanical).
You have a problem in the vertical output circuit. Check for bad capacitors around the vertical output IC. The value of these caps are marked on the side of them. Thanks for using fixya. Please take a moment and rate this responce.
It seems that it is a degaussing problem. TV sets have a degaussing coil that when the TV is turned on , it automatically demagnetizes the screen. Never place any speakers or anything magnetic near or on top of your set. if you see swirls of color and like you say, wierd colors, it is that the screen is magnetized. Turn it on and off with the switch. Not the remote control. The degaussing coil only works by manually turn the switch on and off.
