Question about Audio Cards

Sound controller won't install

On an old system (about 2002) I formatted and reloaded XP Professional with service pack 3; everything ok, but as I don't have the original installation cd for the drivers, I have tried several cds from other motherboards; the installation goes through, but when it completes, the sound controller won't stay, and of course there is no sound. Also, I have downloaded so far two versions from realtek, but the same thing happened :( I know the problem has to do with code 10, which I don't have the foggiest idea of what it is.

    I am assuming the sound card is on-board. What is the make/model of the motherboard?

    1. On the device Properties dialog box, click the General tab.
    2. Click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard. The wizard asks you some simple questions and provides a solution to your problem based on the answers that you provide. If the Troubleshooting Wizard is not available, go to step 3.
    3. Follow the resolution steps provided by the wizard to resolve the problem.
    4. Check the Device status area of the device Properties dialog box to see whether the error is resolved. If the error is resolved, you are finished. Otherwise, go to step 3.
  3. If the Troubleshooting Wizard did not help you resolve your problem or was not available, locate your error code in this article.

I have no sound. this started after my desktop Windows XP Professional shut down unexpectedly. Everything else works OK.

First right click my computer clickproperties then click hardware then device manager and in the click sound vedio and came controller and see wether the driver is installed properly if you see question mark in the driver or the driver not installed properly reload your sound driver which came with the motherboard if the drivers are installed properly then click start settings control pannel then click sound and audio device then click volume and move the slider to high then untick the mute button if ticked then restart the computer

You search for your computer sound card driver. You need to install it after reformatting just like the motherboard, operating system and etc.. To know the Model of your sound card, Right click the My Computer icon and choose properties. If you have more questions, just reply back:D

Problem with sound drivers

Go here to download the sound driver XP never recognises an old driver you have to manually install it.
