Question about Dell Inspiron 6000 Notebook

Damaged USB ports

3 out of my 4 USB ports are damaged (if you plug anything in them or even touch their outside part) the system get shortcircuited and only the fan continues to work. I would like to have them replaced. Can it be done? Do I have to go to a specialist or I can do it myself? Do you know how I can find a reliable and trustworthy repairman (I live close to Bridgewater, new Jersey). Thanks!

Lenovo Touch pad Stopped working

If you're positive you didn't unplug or rip anything while installing new USB ports, trying checking/updating or rolling back the drivers for the touch pad. Installing new USB ports could have mis-configured something and disabled or modified your drivers for the touch pad.

Dell laptop not turning on

Check all the USB ports to see if they are damaged. If any of the pins in the USB ports are touching the chasis then this will case a short circuit and stop it turning on. With the power disconnected, move the pins away from the chasis using a small ascrew driver and make suer they are not touching each other.

A less frequent situation that can happen in a laptop resulting in it not booting up is a damaged USB port. If the pins are touching the system will not start up. You can fix this problem by using a small flat blade screw driver, tweezers or micro needle nose pliers to carefully separate and reform the contacts so they do not touch.
This is not a permanent fix because the USB port will become unusable. To fully fix it would require you to replace the system board, which may or may not be covered under your warrenty.

No, there are no failsafes in place. Just be very cautious, as soldering onto a motherboard, especially a laptop, is not recommended.

If there are ANY working USB sockets, then I would recommend using a USB hub, rather than replacing damaged ones (also, the damage may have caused problems with other components, so replacing the damaged sockets may not work).

Usb damage

It wouldn't hurt to be honest about what happened with the service plan provider and see what they say. It would be a shame to have to replace your computer over a broken USB port. You can always purchase a USB hub which plugs into one USB port and supplies you with two or more USB ports.

Good Luck,

I have a toshiba satellite A-135 laptop that will not recognize anything plugged into the usb ports

Check to see if one of the USB ports is damaged. Sometimes they can be damaged and have connections touching the outside metal of the port which actually grounds the connection and will cause the other ports to not work either. If it is connected then use a flat tip screw driver (*with the machine off and battery out*) to make it not touch the outside of the usb port and try "other" USB ports that aren't damaged and see if it works. If it doesn't then you are looking at needing a new motherboard. Locate your closest ASP and take in for service, you can find them at support.toshiba.com.

there is a possibility that the cable is damaged or the phone port is damaged slightly in the data port. I was going to tell you to download drivers but it seems that it was working before so its either 3 things, computer, cable or phone. 92% of the time its the cable, just try another one. Please let me know if this works for you.

HP Printer Usb port in my Acer Laptop , shortcircuits my house

hello

Try using external USB HUB (POWERED) Adapter. It might fix this issue.
Use an other USB cable and see.
If the problem still exist do not plug in the printer again, you may damage your USB port or even burn your laptop motherboard.
hope this helped

Short circuit

If you look into the USB port and there are four finger like metal contacts and one of these is bent and touching the metal casing it is shorting out the 5 volts supply. Remove the connection to the power supply and remove the battery then straighten the finers so they dont touch anything. Replace the power adaptor and try again - if the laptop now works that is fine but you will not be able to use that damaged usb port.

Please be sure to rate this solution as we depend on your feedback.
