Question about Mag Innovision 19" LCD Flat-Panel Monitor LT916S

Flat screen monitor has gone black

My flat screen was going in and out for awhile, now it is completely black, but the blue power light is on.  From what I have read it sound like a capacitor on the invertor board may be the culprit, but there are several.  Whats the best way to test them and can it be done with an ohmmeter?
Thanks!

You are the Best.  I did what you suggested today and bought 3 220uf caps that were rated 35v, up from 25.  They were the ones closest to the spot on the board that looked as if it was getting overheated and seemed reasonable to start with those.  I just plugged it in and works like a charm.  Thanks again, I hope this post helps others.

You can test capacitors with an ohmmeter. A good capacitor behaves like a short circuit when you first apply a voltage, then its resistance increases as it charges. The capacitors that fail are electrolytic types with polarity, so be sure to put the meter ground lead on the capacitor negative. The cap will be marked. An open capacitor will show no kick in the reading, and a shorted cap will show a constant low resistance.

Now, having said all that, ohming a capacitor isn't 100% effective as a test. A capacitor's value may change to the point where a circuit will stop working, but if the cap isn't shorted or completely open, or is just a very low value, the ohmmeter test won't show a problem. A capacitance tester is better. Many digital meters include a capacitance test function.

Most inverter circuits have only a small number of capacitors, and it's usually faster just to change them all. If you replace a capacitor, keep the capacitance the same (the microfarad value) but use a little higher voltage rating. Caps come in standard voltage values, and they get physically larger as the rating increases, but if you just go up one level the new part will usually fit. The main reason these go bad is that the manufacturer used too low a voltage to begin with. It keeps costs down, but the parts are stressed and often can't deal with it.

It sounds like you are not getting any power. I would try another power cord to see if it makes a difference.

LiquidVideo L17LCD2 17 in. Flat Panel LCD Monitor - Power Issues

firstly stop turning it off and on because you will blow something else like a power board then it will be a big paper weight.
next get a torch and when it is powered on and supposed to be showing images, shine the torch at the screen.
if you can see everything then you have a broken backlight or problem with your backlight and connections.
they cost approx £15 and a little labour, its not a big job. you may be able to do it yourself if you can get hold of a service manual.
