Hey,

there is a 3 volt flat battery inside the computer, it in most cases clearly visible.

Replace it with the same type of battery, then adjust the clock in the system setup.

All done, all fine.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,

SOURCE: Bios default password

The BIOS default password is just blank, and it is not asked.

When you set a bios password, you are asked to enter a value, therefore if bios is asking the password, the password had been changed.

To reset the bios password if you do not know the password you need to access to motherboard and temporarily remove battery for few seconds.
Removing battery will reset bios and delete the password.
Unplug power cord before accessing the motherboard, and try not touching the motherboard with your finger.
Put battery back in place before restarting computer.

SOURCE: Dell OptiPlex GX520 PC Desktop Problem

Hello everyone, check your cpu - I've just had one of these in for repair and the cpu was faulty - removing the ATX 4way 12v lead let the pc start rather then detecting a short and shutting the psu down. Changing the cpu cured the fault.

Thanks

If 1 & 2 are off ... then you have problems.

Memory modules are detected, but a memory failure has occurred.

  • If you have one memory module installed, reinstall it and restart the computer. (see Memory for instructions on how to remove and install memory modules.)
  • If you have two or more memory modules installed, remove the modules, reinstall one module, and then restart the computer. If the computer starts normally, reinstall an additional module. Continue until you have identified a faulty module or reinstalled all modules without error.
  • If available, install properly working memory of the same type into your computer.
  • If the problem persists, contact Dell (see Contacting Dell).

Sounds like you may have multiple problems. Suggest trying to eliminate possible causes by removing components. Remove any PCI cards like modem, video card, sound card, etc... Remove the memory modules and disconnect cables to CD/DVD drives. Look at the USB ports to see if any are damaged. Remove the components one at a time and see if the LED's change.

Dell optiplex desktop freezes up at boot screen. Says drive 2 not found. Bios setup is correct and boot sequence has been setup correctly. Was working before but now freezes up.

Swap out the ram one stick at a time, bad ram has been known to cause this type of symptom, the other thing to check is the motherboard, check the led light on the board is green, if not and it is yellow or amber indicates motherboard issues.
