Question about Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

I have a Zenith surround stereo receiver model #Z712B. Whever I plug in the "front" or surround speakers the receiver clicks to silence with an error (E2) displayed in the small screen area. I have tried several different speakers to see if that was the problem, it is not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

NOTE: The remote control cannot be used during the reset procedure. All necessary buttons to complete the reset process are located on the front panel of the receiver. This procedure is not intended to correct intermittent shut-off symptoms or problems MODEL: HTR-5990 (U.S.A. model/s) (BEFORE YOU CONTINUE, PLEASE READ THE ABOVE NOTES!) 1. With the Right Hand, press and hold the STRAIGHT/EFFECT button. With the Left Hand, press the MASTER ON/OFF button and HOLD both buttons for no more than “3” SECONDS, AT THE SAME TIME. The reset procedure will clear an incorrect setting that might be causing abnormal operation. GOOD LUCK

SOURCE: All my speakers don't work.

Did you press the "TEST" button on the remote? It will send some white noise to each speaker that is hooked up, one at a time.

Can you have just 2 channel by hooking up to right & left front speaker posts on 5.1 surround

short answer.....no. If you hook more than one speaker up to a single channel, it will lower the impedence and will damage the amp. You can hook up multiple speakers by using a speaker switch box between the speakers and the amp. This will match the impedence and should keep the amp from blowing.

Denon receiver not working surround output

If everything is connected correct, the only thing I can think of, is you don't put in a surround signal. If you only feed 2 way stereo, only two speaker will work. Also if you switch to stereo, the other channels will stop working. Check the cables, the settings and the input.

Hello, I have a Sony STR-D85 surround sound system. I need to connect my phone to the system so that my phone's music plays through my surround sound speakers. The front of the console has a headphone...

Headphone jack is an output not input jack. Your going to need a cord to go from your headphone jack(output) of your phone to audio input on your receiver. The cord has a mini stereo plug to the phone and RCA plugs of left and right to your receiver auxiliary input. Good luck..

" Some DVD\'s sound fine whilst others have background sounds but no voices. I do have an old model TV that has mono sound.Would that cause it? "
Hi,
I wrote a short article for someone who had a similar problem a few days ago.
I will edit it for you so that it fits. Here it is.
Your DVD player should have output connectors in the back of it to plug your amplifier or receiver into. If you have a Stereo system (no surround sound speakers, or front center speaker) connect the DVD Audio Cables on the back of the DVD player to the STEREO (or MIXED ) Output Jacks. If it is connected to the Left Front and Right Front jacks of the "Surround Sound" output jacks instead of Stereo(or MIXED) then the dialog will be sent to the CENTER channel output. If you have no center channel speaker you will not hear it. Thus no dialog.
NOTE: In your case for the TV that is mono, here is the solution.
1 Connect a stereo pair of RCA cables (red and white "male" connectors at each end) to the Mixed or Stereo Output of the DVD player (NOT ANY SURROUND OUTPUTS).
2 Purchase an RCA type "Y" connector that has 2 female to a single male connectors on it. Walmart about 3 dollars.
3 Plug the single male plug of the Y connector into the back of the TV set's single mono audio input.
4 Connect the stereo RCA pair from the MIXED output of the DVD player into the Y connector that is now on the back of yourTV.
5 Run your yellow Video output from the DVD into the Back of the Set's yellow input.
That should do it. The sound should be clear and correct with dialog, effects and music.
Hope this helps,
Best,
Mark

I can hear the music when playing dvd's on my Spectoniq dvd player, but can't hear when people talk. Can anyone help me?

Yes, I can help you. Your DVD player should have output connectors in the back of it to plug your amplifier or receiver into. If you have a Stereo system (no surround sound speakers, or front center speaker) connect the DVD Audio Cables on the back of the DVD player to the STEREO Output Jacks. If it is connected to the Left Front and Right Front jacks of the "Surround Sound" output jacks instead of Stereo is that the dialog on is sent to the CENTER channel output. If you have no center channel speaker you will not hear it.
If you have a surround sound system with two speakers in front and two speaker in back. Then you need to make a change in the Receiver Setup (Which may be set up for 3 speakers in front) so that it is set up for 2 speakers in front.
The last thing my simply be that you have a center channel front speaker that is not completely connected because of a wire falling off, etc.
Hope this helps,
Best,
Mark

Sound only from left front and right front speakers possibly my projection screen tv is only 2.1 channel does this mean i cannot have surround

surround receivers are supposed to be able to turn a stereo signal into a surround signal.  if the surround unit is producing just a stereo sound, then the tv is most likely outputting in mono, and not stereo; or there is no surround sound to decode..

Did it ever work properly? If not, let's get down to basics and set it up for the simplest configuration it can have: FM source in stereo with front left and right speakers, no Surround Mode, no DSP, no Tape Monitor, no Mute, Volume not turned all the way down. Does that work?

Do you have Surround Speakers defined in System Setup A? If not, only Dolby Surround or Off are valid Surround Modes.

Is T2 Monitor indicator lit? Press the Tape-2 Monitor.
Is there acceptable sound other than during Speaker testing? NO? Is MUTE On?

Latest model surround receiver for bose 901 speakers VI

I can think of no reason any amp pushing 120 watts would not work with 901-VI's. They're very efficent and will probably play louder and cleaner than you would ever need. As I recall, my old series IV's have no maximum amplifier rating specified, but I did blow up a bridged Carver M-400 Cube (pushing 400 watts to one speaker with a DVD-Audio of Yes - Fragile cranked dangerously high) with them. I'm convinced my speakers are indestructible in any home application.

Keep in mind that whatever you decide to use as your control/amplifier section, a pair of 901's need a dedicated stereo amplifier. I suspect you're thinking surround sound so a receiver with separable preamp/amp channels, due to the Activbe EQ, would be needed and as far as I know they don't exist. A separate stereo amp for the 901's was my solution. I run a Carver AV-406 (5-channel amp) for my 901's in Front, 2 Subwoofers and the Rear Surround channel, with the Active EQ between the receiver and the 901's amp channels. My receiver controls everything and just drives the Center and Surrounds.

Modest amps would work but at very loud volumes may go into clipping, which is bad for any speaker. 120 clean watts is good. I'm using only 110W for mine.

A Carver M-200 is a fine, efficient amplifier that would have you cooking just fine (2x100W).
