While im playing the main sound will go off and it wont save and on some games the game will completely free. for example i know theres a problem b/c when i play saints row 2 the radio stops playing and when im playing smackdown vs raw the annoucers will stop speaking eventhough there are other sounds...the game just freezes.
You might possibly have to much memory on it. Or of course, it COULD have just gotten the Sony version of the 360's red ring of death. This will sound really simple, but you probably should call Sony's support and see what they say. Also check in the disc slot to make sure nothing is blocking the disc. You could get a cheap fan to stay on while you're playing b/c many times game consoles just wear out. My best guess would be that their is something where it souldn't be. You might also try playing with a different controller. Game systems can be really unpredictable b/c they require so much human interaction that they aren't always ready for.

Just like anything else that is mass produced there are sometimes defective parts. The disc that it was made from could have a defect in it. I would suggest taking the game back to the store and exchanging it for another. Most stores will let you exchange with a receipt. And don't worry about your saved game data it will still be there!
I just got Fallout 3 as well and as i start the game it will freeze up on me usually within the first minute or so. Sometimes it gets to the point when I take control I want to know if there is any way I can fix this please let me know...
I might sound like a stupid solution, but if the PS3 is in a dusty area it sometimes freezes.. Try to vacume clean it.. Also, is your fan on and does it sound ok. It might freeze due to overheating. If it only freezes when you play games on a disc, it might be a problem with the laser reader, which could also be due to dust.
First of all call sony 1-800-345-SONY (7669) ask them what they think it is, if they wont tell you they will want 168$ to fix it...(on avg)
I have fixed over 25 ps3's and its a first time I have heard of this... If you want a ps3 I can get you a good deal on a system I might have a gently used 40 gb ps3 on had (not refurb)
If you want to sell the system let me know I do buy broken ps3's but this one sounds like a new issue I have not dealt with yet which makes it better!
