Make sure you are connecting to your own internet connection through your wireless router and not on your neighbor's.....limited connectivity means you are out of reach or signal is blocked....

The specs for the Dell Inspiron 6000 with the Intel PRO/Wireless card
are list as 802.11b or 802.11g while the router you bought uses 802.11n.
Your best bet at this point would be to either return the linksys
router and get an 802.11g model which is slower than 802.11n, but will
be supported by your laptop. Or you can buy a 802.11n wireless adapter
for your laptop to connect to your new router. Either way the rules of
wireless are you need your device and router to be speaking the same
wireless standard. So, pick 802.11n or 802.11g and stick with that
standard for your gear.
Good luck!

Hmmmm
If you can obtain an "802.11 N" wireless card, a USB type then you may have better luck maintaining your connection.
In the meantime, set your card to use "Only G", not "B" or "A".
This will keep your connection at the highest speed until you invest in a "N" adapter ($30).
Hope this helps!

Your Dell may not have the wireless card driver installed.
Install the latest wireless driver.
You can download the drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Tag label is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where the specific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you select the Windows XP or Vista version of the drivers for your Windows operating system.
