Question about Toshiba Satellite A1O A15 A20 A25 A30 A35 A40 A45 Series 15 inch LCD Display- LP150X06 CD-ROM Drive

2 Answers

I have a laptop Toshiba satellite A30. I have a black screen and some text on it like: PXE-E61 MediaTest Failure PXE-M0F Exiting PXE ROM and it goes continiously, I can't go any further. When I was loaded recovery disk it showed me "there is no such disk". I suspect that my HDD is crashed. Or may be there is something else?

    I have tried almost everything,but it still the same. There is no source or there is no such disk. I think my HDD has died.But anyway thank you very much for solutions and for this web site. It's really helpful. By the way, is there any idea where to buy cheap HDD and how much ,actually, it is. Thanks again.

Hi dandi2004,
Looking at your last question - cheap is a relative thing... You can find replacement internal HDDs at places like Maplins stores or online, even at Play.com. I'm NOT saying these places are cheap, just that you can take a first look at what's available and get an idea of price ranges, for different makes, GB, rpm etc, if that's what you're asking.

Media test failure means that your boot drive has failed ie your hard drive has failed to boot....could be one of a number of reasons
1 hard drive connection could be loose - try taking out the hard drive and reinstalling it
2 the boot sector on the hard drive is corrupt or damaged - try booting off a windows disk and running chkdsk or fixboot command
3 partition table is corrupt - try booting off windows cd and running chkdsk /p from command prompt
4 Hard drive has failed - if machine is still under warranty return for repair if not install new hard drive and reload op system from recovery disks

Argon PXE Boot Agent v2.01 2002 - PXE - E61

Your computer tries to "boot" from several devices:
* floppy-disk
* disk-drive
* CD-ROM
* USB memory-stick
* over a network, via PXE (Pre eXecution Environment)

If you have a network-cable connected to the Ethernet port on the computer, with the other end connected to a "boot-server", then the Operating System can be loaded over this network-connection.

But, if you get "media test failure" and "check cable", then the network-cable for PXE is either non-working or not-present.

Any disk-drive that shows "ZERO" blocks is very probably a DEAD disk-drive. Replace it.

PXE-E61

Your disk-drive has failed.
So, your computer tried to boot itself over the Ethernet network,
by "broadcasting" a request for booting. When either the network-cable was _NOT_ connected, or when _NO_ computer responded to the "broadcast" message, you get "PXE: media failure".

Take your computer to a qualified technician,
to remove the "dead" disk-drive,
to replace the disk-drive,
and to reinstall Windows.
