Question about Saeco Magic De Luxe Espresso Machine
Howdy! Our old Saeco Magic Superautomatica de luxe, Type Sup 012, is having a major problem. It had been leaking lots more water the past month or so, but making the normal amount of coffee. Then a couple days ago it started making a constant noise as though it were cleaning itself after making a cup of coffee, along with producing an electrical burning odor (i.e., from a blown electronic component, rather than simply burning coffee).
Even when I turn it off by the power button, it continues to make the noise, and after 20 or so seconds of that, the light comes on telling me that the central unit is not seated properly (although I think it really is).
The sound seems to be coming from behind the dispenser tubes, i.e., inside the unit. (It doesn't seem to be a problem with the grinder, or the water heating unit.) The top of the unit -- the "hotplate" area -- gets quite hot.
Any ideas on the problem, if it's repairable, and if so, how much it'd cost to fix?
Your problem is easier. On the top left side of the brew unit is a thumbscrew that holds the filter screen in the brew head. See if you push down on the thumbscrew you can get the filter screen to move? If it dose pull down on the filter screen and see if it will come out. If it does there will be an extra nut on the screw end and that needs to be removed and you need to order a new thumbscrew. That is why we call it a thumbscrew. It only has to be finger tight. The key is only for removing.

I don't know what you mean by disarming the grinder. Unless you are talking about using the bypass. If that is the case there is a button on the panel that has waht looks like a scoop. Push that button and put a scoop in the bypass door and then push the button for what cup size you whant. Regarding the taste of the coffee. It may need a cleaning and service. Try googling "saeco repair" and find an authroized Saeco repair center and have a good service done on it.
