Vista Service Pack install/configuration and Re-boot error loops!

I recently downloaded the Vista Service Pack 1 for my Acer 5610
After the initial install it re-boots my computer...
The Configuration Updates 1-3 screen comes up and does its thing.
Reboot starts and before starting up I get an msg that the Start-Up has an error and it requires Start-Up Recovery.
It automatically does this and then after start-up it goes through the the
Configuration Updates 1-3 AGAIN!
An endless loop that ends after 10-12 times with the Blue Screen of Death. Can not skip any steps to a E-Recovery point because it cant find one!

OK, Microsoft has your answer; but I wonder if perhaps you downloaded an older version of Service Pack 1.

That outlines your next steps. I suspect you'll resort to Step 2, which may require you to move on to Step 3. To get into safe mode:
Keep hitting F8 as you restart your computer. You should eventually get to a menu that lets you boot into "Safe Mode with Network Support." Do it.

This may also help walk you through some of your problems:

Hi,

Have you tried to press F8 when the system boots ( initial screen ) and tried the safe mode or last known good configuration ?

If this does not help, try a recovery disk and it should work.

Regards,
Ron

Tryied to install service pack 1. error

Run Windows Update again and make sure that you have all of the updates that are being offered. Ignore/untick the SP1 update if it is showing on Windows Update until you install all of the other updates.

My dell inspiron 1501 with microsoft vista loops and never gets out of loop when "welcome" starts. Have gone through all safe modes, etc but no success in getting sytem to work.

Sounds like you may have a corrupt driver or incompatible software trying to launch at boot. Or, at worst, malware thats totally screwing it up. If you have access to another PC, download Service Pack 2 for Vista. Boot your PC into safe mode, and try to install SP2 from safe mode.

Acer Aspire 5735Z - Vista Home Prem. shutdown hang

updates can be slow, and lead to more updates sometimes.you should goto windows update, let it search for important updates then install them.even if it takes a while, once you do that it should be fine.and configure updates to auto download but ask to install.

If it had vista installed first then u are sol, unless u use a new hard drive. That is probably why your cam and several other things don't work. The laptop was designed for VISTA.

After installing vista service pack 1 my dvd rom is gone.

Download the latest driver for dvd rom from Acer that will work with Vista SP1. Also try uninstalling the device in device manager and restart your computer. Vista may find "new hardware" and install the driver from its driver pack in SP1.

Seems like your VISTA upgrade didn't sucessfully upgrade itself from XP to VISTA. Seems like M$ update program detects your OS as XP and tries to install the SP3 for XP. VISTA only has SP1 released. Its currently stuck in a loop that it doesn't know what to do. Restart your laptop into safe mode by pressing F8 before the VISTA loading page comes up and go to Safe mode and backup your data and use the ACER RESTORE CD OR ACER RESTORE METHOD to help you reload your system back to factory defaults then upgrade back to vista without install any updates or connecting it to the internet.

This is my best solution to get you out of this weird and unusual situation.
