Your attachment speed will depend on what it is you're slicing or shredding. Begin at speed setting two and work up to the speed where the motor begins to labour, then reduce the speed by one notch. Always start too slow, then move up. If you find this solution usefull, please rate it. Good luck. ricardok45

How do I install the shredder?

You need to access the accessory attachment point, it's behind the silver KitchenAid logo on the front of the mixer. You'll need to unscrew a set screw (black knob at the very front of the mixer head), newer mixers have a hinged cover, on older mixers, it just pulls out. Unscrew the set screw a bit and fold up or remove the cover.

Now you will see a hole with a hollow square shaft inside, this is where the various optional items attach to the mixer.

Specifically for the shredder, you will need to attach a slicing drum to the drive shaft provided with the shredder, insert it through the drum, and raise the little bar in the rear of the slicer assembly.

Insert the whole assembly into the front of the mixer so that the square drive shaft shaft fits into the square hollow in the mixer, then lower the little bar to lock into place.

Do I need to remove the kitchen aid rotor slicer/shredder shaft after each use?

I do, because if you don't, it can rust into place and become very difficult to remove from the attachments. (I'm guessing you mean from the slicer attachment, not the mixer itself, of course it should be removed from the mixer after use)

We the multi-functional mixer attachments but now unable to get shredder to attach correctly

Remove the shaft an cutter first and install the outside case of the shredder. Tighten thumb screw. You may have to lift up on a lever that runs in a groove in the shaft to remove the shaft.

Next install the shaft with cutter attached. Lube the shaft with tiny bit of mineral oil or food safe grease. Lift the lever mentioned above and rotate till the shaft seats and then drop the lever and make sure it is engaged.

Clicking noice in gears

A clicking noise is not indicative of a major motor issue with a Kitchenaid stand mixer. If the noise worsens or is accompanied with other symptoms, or if you are incredibly concerned with the development of clicking, I would suggest contacting Kitchenaid Customer Service.

Their toll-free telephone number is 1-800-541-6390.

Are attachments for a KitchenAid K5 compatible with the K55?

That would be incorrect. If the attachment is for a hobart kitchenaid mixer then it will fit all models of kitchenaid mixers including the brand new pro series because the attachment port and drive gear has not been changes since 1925 or 6 when it was first introduce by the Hobart company.

I need instructions to use my new kitchen aid attachment

Hi. Basically all you really need to know is to start the machine at a slow speed, begin shredding, increase speed to a point where the machine is not labouring. Next time you use that attachment, set it for that speed. Different attachments and the foods they process load different stresses on the mixer. Always use a speed that is one step above/below the labouring sounds. Kitchenaid doesn't see fit to publish these instructions online as they do their other manuals. Another missed opportunity by Kitchenaid. You might want to check out the kitchenaid forum. one of these people just might have it in digital form. Good luck! ricardok45

Do you have an instruction booklet for kitchenaid attatchments thank you

Hi possum. Go to the Kitchenaid website and look for your model #. There you can download info on your mixer. You may not find info for attachments though. If in doubt as to what speed to select for any particular attachment, always start at the lowest speed setting, then increase the speed until you can hear the mixer begin to struggle. Then select the next lower speed. If this solution helps you then please rate it. Good luck! ricardok45
