Question about Toshiba Satellite 1415-S173 Notebook

Toshiba Satallite 1415 wont boot

I just took apart my Toshiba Satellite 1415 laptop to clean up the fan because it was starting to make noises, and I also wanted to see how easy it would be to replace. I then reassambled everything. I took careful note when taking it apart to put everything back together correctly. I then turned it on and it will not boot. It gave me a message that my Windows/System/drivers folder could not be found and then nothing. Should I try a boot CD and How do I get into CMOS on this model (1415-S173)?

I actually went into CMOS and it is reading the HDD, and I got the same message again. Now I know exactly what it says. It said that windows could not start, becuase it could not find the System32\Drivers\pci.sys file. Then it directed me to use my original Setup CD to try to repair it, and to do this I needed to press "r" when starting up the system. Why would this be?

Sounds like maybe the hard drive is not hooked up or not hooked correctly. Tey unhooking it and re hooking it back up.
If it worked before but not now it has to be somethign is not hooked ack up correctly and a cd will not help.
If Its not the hard drive I would suggest taking it back apart to the point you had it before and reasembling it again but make sure all connections are tight, especially the ones where you slide the flat wire in and then lock it.
It has to be a loos connection some where.
that or the timing of the failure is just coincedental with the disasembly and one has nothing to do with the other.  If thats the case then you have a different problem.
If it is just a fluke and you just have failure I would suggest downloading a program you can install to cd like windows live and then boot to the cd.  once booted to cd you can access the hard drive and fix any problems with directory structure.

If I had to wger a guess.  I would say it was a fluke it happened at the same time.

try booting into safe mode, I think it is either f5 or f8 while rebooting, then click safe mode with network support.  This should load windows safe mode.

now find a good working copy of the file, usually just take from another machine running same opperating system.  Then copy it to the computer rename the old file (it can be found in the system 32 folder in windows directoy. I usually rename to pci.old then copy new file to same location.  Then reboot.  if it works delet the old one but if it doesnt then reboot into safe mode again and delet new one and rename old one back to original file name.

    hope this helps

Toshiba 1415-S173 overheats and cripples the cpu. how to fix this problem?

Assuming there is a fan / heatsink above the CPU, is the fan working? If not, replace the fan. If there's no fan (or if it works), maybe try removing the heatsink and re-setting it with new thermal compound. Apart from that, clean all airways of dust and ensure that when you're using it that the vents are uncovered.

Boot via LAN

The wake up on LAN is usually setup from the BIOS configuration.
If you BIOS doesn't have this option then it is not possible.
