Question about Fantom Titanium Hard Drive

1 Answer

Hd does not show up on desktop.

I have a mac ibook G4 and my hard drive icon stopped showing up on the desktop. I have lots of data on the drive. There is also an older Phantom drive that still works. I have checked all the cables and when I plug the USB into the computer the hard drive's light blinks and makes sounds showing that it is aware it is plugged in to a computer. When I look at system profiler/USB, system profiler freezes, but only when the affected HD is plugged in.

Rocstor pro 850 doesn't show up on mac desktop

Did you use this drive on the Mac previously? I've had problems with some drives formatted under windows that were not seen on the Mac.

If you previously used it on a windows machine you may have to reformat it with the Mac.

Hopefully, You still have a Windows machine available to you. First Place the data on the drive onto a Windows machine. Reformat the drive on your Mac. Copy the information back on the drive. It should now work for you.

try other usb port, or other computer and see whether the hdd is detected. If still not, try to go to device manager ( ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. After that, try to access it from Computer, if not able to access it, format it (use quick format) and then use asoftech data recovery program to recover your files. get the data recovery program from

If it still has a valid warranty, exercise the warranty to get a free replacement.

Otherwise, open the enclosure, and separate the disk-drive from the USB-to-disk-drive adapter, and connect the disk-drive as a 'slave' disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if the adapter was the problem.

My Verbatim suddenly stopped working on my Mac OS

It sounds like your hard drive is damaged. Hard drives are very, very dilicate pieces of machinary. The disk is paper thin and any sudden jarring, especially dropping it creates a warp in the drive. It could also be just a mechanical failure. Unplug it to prevent further damage. Don't worry in many cases you can have the data retrieved from your hard drive by using this online company that I highly recommend:

Mac 10.4.11 Acom data hd/ the hard drive does not show on desktop or file menu. does show in the disk utility.

Is this working before with this Mac Tiger? Or is this the first time you're connecting this HD to your computer?

If first time, there's a possibility that the HD has different file format. It should be formatted as Mac OSX (Journaled) in order for the Mac to recognize it.

If this is working before with this computer, check the status of the HD. Most HDs that could only be detected under the Disk Utility needs a reformat.

IMPORTANT: Formatting the HD would erase all the files inside of it. You may need to bring your HD to the nearest Data Recovery Center to retrieve the files inside and then you may now reformat the HD.

Have a great day!

If it is a USB or Firewire drive, you should be able to just plug it in to the corresponding jack on your iBook. Once you do, the mac may notify you that the drive needs to be initialized (formatted) to be usable, if that drive has not already been formatted for the Mac.

If it has already been formatted, or once you let the Mac initialize it, your drive is ready to use, and is accessible via an icon that will appear on your desktop.

Recognized - but no mount

Don't know about the MAC part, but an I/O error implies that the either the source file cannot be read or the destination drive will not write. This is usually an indicator of a bad HDD. To check, I would attempt to connect the external drive to another computer. If it still gives the same indication, contact the drive manufacturer about data recovery recommendations

Why wont it work?

doesn't seem that "Simple" if you ask me. I don't think PC hard disks are compatible with Mac's. you might have to get a Mac compatible External HD.
