System will not power up

This morning I woke up and found the desk top dead no lights totally dead. went to Micro Center purchased new power supply. Now I have a light at the top of the mother board but thats it no fan function on any of the fans no blinking power switch. Does not even try to turn on I have read on here that others have had this problem. Im not real computer savy but do understand board components and functions. there are no scorch marks around capacitors it seems that the power supply is not being turn on by the mother board. as there is no voltage output to the hd or cd rom. I would love to here any suggestions thanks Joe we do leave the pc on most of the time

Re: system will not power up

Have you replaced the cmos battery(disc shaed flat 3V CR2032), although there could be more sinister problems than this as the mobo or processor may be damaged.

Ga-m55sli-s4 dead i was using it last night and switched off and morning when i tried to start my computer i got not display at all i checked powersupply and all but found that the board itself was dead...

I am not sure how you checked the power supply but they can be misleading. Many failed power supplies still have enough power to turn on lights and spin fans but not enough for a system startup.

Unfortunately, MB's are not designed to be serviced. Considering 1 or 2-hours of labor costs more than most motherboards these days it is just not worth trying to fix them. Therefore, if it is not the PS you need to buy a new MB.

Good luck!

No lights turn on, game doesn't turn on. Appears Dead..

If this is in a computer and the computer does nothing at all when you push the power button you might want to check the power supply. This can be manually done on an ATX power supply both 20 and 24 pin connections. First you remove the main system power cable from the mother board " big rectangle one " and locate the green wire. After you have found it use a paper clip bent in a U and touch the green wire and ANY black wire " all blacks are ground " This will turn on a power supply if its good. If your power supply fails to start i would look into buying a new one.

Smps transistors failed

It is difficult (or impossible) to tell exactly what caused the transistors to go bad. Sometimes they just fail because they were a little weak, or other parts went bad first and caused the transistors to be damaged. Parts get weaker and values change over time and with use, and failures can happen. The UPS can't stop damage to the power supply if some part inside the supply goes bad, but it is still good to have one. New 450 to 500 watt power supplies can be purchased for $30 to $50 (or more).

Maybe a silly question to ask; but did you connect the processor power lead, as unlike some processors this needs a seperate supply.

System dead except for one light

Perhaps your power-on button is bad. Try a different power on button.
