what i did was went to best buy and found one the employees that had the knowlage and time to assist with my problem, make shure you have all the computers info with you, or like i did ,just brought it with me , the solution to my computer was a WD-PASSPORT EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE which gave me another 500gigabites of space with out replacing the internal hard drive
First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.
The link below gives you the user manual. On the computer views is the base view which will show you the correct bay on the bottom of the computer. You will loosed the screws to that bay, remove the cover andl you will see the hard drive. Althought I have not removed this particular laptop hard drive, these drives usually pull up or back using a tab provided. The hard drive will probably have a cradle the actual drive is connected to. You will have to removed the old drive from this cradle and put the new drive back on the cradle exactly the way the old drive was attached,
I hope that this information helps and gives you a place to start solving your issue.
If it works on another computer then either the ide cable in the acer is bad/loose at either end or the ide controller on the motherboard is bad. I would try a known good ide cable first as if this is the problem it is fixable alot cheaper than a motherboard. Hope this helps.
