Question about Brother Fax Machines

1 Answer

The DCP 7020 copier is ghosting and really faded on the left side. We just put a new drum and toner cartridge. We have cleaned everything it says to clean and nothing helps.

It happens with the document feeder, on the glass and printing checks.

  • gpk1952 May 11, 2010

Does this happen when using the Document Feeder only, or does it also happen when placing the document directly on the glass?

It says drum error but the cart and drum is replaced with new and still can't get past the drum error message.

Hi There!
What you can do to clear the Drum Error message is to clean the corona wire.
  • Open front cover of the machine and remove the drum & toner cartridge assembly.
  • Remove the toner from the drum and gently shake the toner cartridge from side to side put it on a piece of paper to avoid scattering the toner.
  • Theres a blue tab on the upper left side of the drum, slide it from left to right, right to left about 5-6 times don't forget to put the blue tab back to it's home position(where the arrow is).
  • Put the toner back into the drum make sure it will click into place.
  • Reinstall the drum and toner assembly back into the machine and close the front cover.
  • LCD should display the date & time.

If you continue to receive the message try resetting the drum counter by doing the following:
  • Open the front cover
  • Press the Options key on the control panel. The display will show "REPLACE DRUM - 1.YES 2.NO".
  • Press 1 to reset the drum count.
  • Close the front cover
Hope this helps!

Copies are black and where is this corona wire? I

Your cartridge has two sections, the drum and the toner section. The corona wire is on the drum section. There should be a blue tab on the top left hand side of your drum unit. Slide this tab across the cartridge one or two times, returning the tab to its original position. There should be an arrow on the blue tab that will match up with an arrow on the drum unit when the tab is in its resting position. Performing this action cleans the corona wire inside the cartridge. If this doesn't fix it you may need to purchase a new drum unit.

My intellifax is pirnting all faded on the left side but not the right.

have you tried changing the drum imaging unit? It could either be a toner cartridge problem or the drum unit needing replacement. If it's new toner or new drum and this problem started since changing to the new, you may be able to get a replacement at no charge or a refund.

Hope this helps.

I have a KX FL511 fax machine. I just replaced the toner but it is still making faded out vertical lines on the sheet. on left side, middle, and mid right part. I have cleaned glass and roller with rubbing...

There are two things to try. First, did you shake the toner cartridge back and forth prior to installing? This evenly distributes the toner throughout the cartridge. A lot of people skip this step or just give it a perfunctory shake. The other thing to check is although you cleaned the drum/roller assembly, did you clean the Corona wire? This is important because a dirty wire will interfere with proper disbursement of toner as well. The wire should have a TAB that rests on the side. Run the TAB back and forth a few times to ensure the wire is clean and return the TAB to is resting spot.

These 2 steps should fix your problem. If they don't you either have a bad toner cartridge (check the date) or a bad drum. Best of luck to you.

Right side of Print Out is faded. Cleaned, and Cleaned. Doesn't say to change drum/ink. What else can we try?

You can try shaking the toner cartridge to even out the toner but most likely either need a new toner cartridge or the drum is not sitting evenly as it should.

Panasonic KX-FL521 Fax Laser Copier, New Toner

This is usually an indication that the toner cartridge wasn't shaken from side to side to distribute the toner evenly.  If this was done, the cause is probably a dirty drum.  Remove the toner cartridge and clean the drum. Either of these two solutions should solve your problem.  Best of luck.

How do u chang the ink cartridge?

1. Openthe front cover and pull out the drum unit. Place the drum unit on a drop clothor large piece of disposable paper to avoid spilling and scattering the toner.

2. Holddown the lock lever on the right and pull the toner cartridge out of the drumunit. Handle the toner cartridge carefully. If toner scatters on your hands or clothes, immediately wipe it off or wash it with cold water.

3. Unpack the new toner cartridge.Place the used toner cartridge into the aluminum bag and discard it accordingto local Regulations.

4. Gently rock the toner cartridgefrom side to side five or six times. To distribute the toner evenly inside thecartridge.

5. Remove the protective cover.

6. Insert the new toner cartridge inthe drum unit until it clicks into place. If you put it in properly, the locklever will lift automatically.

7. Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unitby gently sliding the blue tab from right to left several times. Return the Bluetab to the Home position () before reinstalling the drum Unitand toner cartridge assembly.

8. Reinstall the drum unit and tonercartridge assembly and close the front cover.

Faded prints about 2" in from the margin

Greetings!

{You used the term "drum". This may indicate a roll type of toner rather than a cartridge style of toner. The following tip is for a cartridge style.}

I get much the same symptom when my HP laser cartridge is running low, and no, it doesn't have a "low toner" indicator either. I get by a little longer with mine, long enough to get out and buy a new one that is, by removing it, holding it over a garbage can at an angle and firmly tapping on it to loosen any compacted toner. I then turn it back horizontally and gently shake it back and forth to evenly distribute the remaining toner through the cartridge and reinsert it into the printer. This usually gets me nice, even prints back and extends the life of the cartridge. I can usually get a few extra weeks out of it by doing this two or three times.

Good luck!
Rob

New cartiage/not reconized

It says there is no cartridge, or does it say that the cartridge is empty?

First, you must realize there are two cartridges. A drum and a toner. If you bought a new toner, pulled out the drum and put the new toner in, you have pulled a DOH! You can't just put the toner in. You have to take your old drum cartridge, remove the toner portion and install the new toner into your old drum and then install the entire assembly back into the machine. I hope you didn't throw your drum out thinking it was all one cartridge (I've seen it happen). This is where reading the owner's manual helps.

If not, then one of the contacts must have been damaged. Remove the cartridge and look inside the machine. See if you can find any of the metal contacts on the side of the inner chamber that is bent or damaged and try to bend it back.

Check the drum and make sure none of the contacts are damaged.

If the unit is still saying Toner Empty, try this. On the left side of the toner there will be a while lever in a semi-circular notch.

Unplug the unit, use a small screwdriver or a key to push that white lever back to the front of the notch. Put the drum and toner back into the machine and plug the power back in.
