Question about Brother Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

The DCP 7020 copier is ghosting and really faded on the left side. We just put a new drum and toner cartridge. We have cleaned everything it says to clean and nothing helps.

It happens with the document feeder, on the glass and printing checks.

Does this happen when using the Document Feeder only, or does it also happen when placing the document directly on the glass?

When this occurs it usually means that the toner cartridge is running out of toner on that side. The left is most common since most printing is on that side. Remove the toner cartridge, and shake it vigorously from side to side for a few second, then replace and try again..

Where is the drum located in the printer?

The drum unit is attached to the toner cartridge for the DCP-7020. If you open the front cover (flips down) of the printer, you need to simply pull the drum and toner unit straight out from the printer. You should place the unit on a large drop cloth or piece of paper to ensure that the toner doesn't spill. See chapter 6, page 12 (page 52) of the User's manual for the image of the drum unit. Page 6-19 has the removal procedure. You separate the toner unit from the drum by pressing and holding a lever on the left side of the unit. Then pull the toner cartridge straight out from the drum unit. The User's manual is available from Brother's product support page. The direct link to the manual is .

I hope this helps.

How do i get the toner cartridge out to change it

If there is a specific point on here that you are having trouble with leave a comment and I will get back to you:

1. Open the front cover
2. Pull out the drum unit (with the toner cartridge in it). There should be a handle as soon as you open the cover to pull.
3. On the drum unit, find a green or blue tab on the left side to push down that makes the toner cartridge pop up. Pull out the toner.
4. Insert the new cartridge into the drum untill the tab clicks into place.
5. Insert the drum unit into the printer and close the cover.

Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Where is the drum? it says it is full of dust?

when you open up the front cover, and you pull out the toner, The toner and drum come out as 1 piece. You can then split the two apart by pressing on the blue levers and then lifting the toner cartridge out of the drum.

there is also a cleaning tab that you can move from left to right and back to clean the corona wires.

thanks adi

Laser Printer Brother DCP-7020

If you open the front cover you will have a grey/black part which is easily removed from the machine. This is the toner/drum package, where the grey part is the drum unit. If you look on the right side on the part of the toner/drum package that would go furthest into the machine, you'll see the corona cleaner, which you should move among the line (left to right) 7-8 times or similar. This should clean the corona wire and solve the problem.
Just put the corona cleaner back to where it started and re-insert the toner/drum package into the machine again.

If you are using non brother toner then that's the problem, if not it is the drum unit.
