when using the range extender you have to make sure you set the SSID, channel & wireless key in the range extender the exact same as the router also it has to be in the same IP range so if the router IP address is 192.168.0.1 the range extender IP address has to change from 192.168.1.240 to 192.168.0.240. once that is done restart the range extender and disconnect the ethernet cable & it the 2 lights should light up blue.

I bought a wireless Linksys wireles- G router used for 5.00. They said that it had a weak signal. I hooked it up and sure enough I have a weak signal. So weak that it does not connect to anything but there...

I made mine into a range expander with this information

http://lifehacker.com/#!5563196/turn-your-old-router-into-a-range+boosting-wi+fi-repeater

If you up to the challenge and can follow instructions, takes about 30 min to do.
When you put on the new OS for the router you can up your signal too.

Hello, It sounds like the repeater is not within range of the wireless router or access point. The repeater does not act as a wireless router by itself, but rather like extra antenna/signal booster, so you still need to have a wireless router within range. The router must also be using a router that is 802.11B/G compatible, or else the repeater might not be able to receive that frequency signal in order to boost it (should work with N also, but not quite sure if it has to be set to Standard Channel due to how N works. We are working on wireless frequencies in my course now, so I can contact my instructor, and get back to on that). If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or simply reply.

Cant find a strong enough connection

You need to buy a Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander to boost the signal
  • Move your wireless router to a central location in your network, keeping in mind that the router should be at waist level at the very least, not on the ground.

  • Plug in the Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander in the room where your wireless router is. You'll move the range expander later, but for setup purposes, it should be in the same location as your wireless router.
  • Press the Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander's "Auto Configuration" button for five seconds, which will allow the range expander to detect your wireless network and configure itself with the appropriate settings.
  • Unplug the Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander and relocate it to a location closer to the Xbox 360.
  • Ensure that the antenna for the Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander is pointing upward, and keep in mind that the higher the range expander is placed, the better performance you will get out of it.
  • Plug the Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander back in, and your wireless network should have a much greater range, ensuring that your Xbox 360 is able to maintain a good connection to the network.

I have wireless-G WRT54G2 V1...the signal coverage is weak. If it is more than about 5 m then the signal is lost. Any clue how to fix

the easiest solution is to buy a wireless expander.
    http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/products/WRE54G
this will expand the range of your current router.

however before buying check the following:
your router is not near wireless land telephones, near a tv, or near any other obstacles that could block the signal.
try to put your router somewhere high.

Weak signal problem can be fixed by firmware update however, if the client computer is too far from the router, it can't be helped. What you need is a wireless range expander. What it does is give you another 100% signal or atleast stronger signal to the spot or area where you have a weak or dead signal.
