Broked plastic catch on dryer door

I'm trying to replace the little plastic catch on my dryer door but it doesn't want to come out. Is there a trick to it?

Door will not lock light stays on

Usually this is caused by the door being bent, the hinges being bent, or a worn out door strike/catch not holding the door tightly closed. Lol, got kids?? Mommy's little helpers love to lean on the doors(the ones that open/close vertically). Also, slamming the dryer door can break the little plastic arm attached to the door switch--I see MANY switches with the arms broken in-half or the strikes/catches damaged from slamming. Usually a relatively simple repair to replace the strike/catch.

Go to www.repairclinic.com and enter WDI12. With luck, you will be presented with a list of common repair parts and may be able to view a generic Smeg video showing disassembly

I'm trying to identify some door parts. When you close the door it pushes on a little black plastic switch so you can press the on button. That part has broken off and I need to know what part to get...

What you are describing is the door switch (first one), and the door catch. What's good for you is that they are fairly easy to replace. It all depends on what type of dryer you have as to how to access the parts on the dryer to change them out.
If you can send me the model number of the dryer, I can help you get the right parts for it and get them changed out. Would be more than happy to help.
Thanks,
Mike

Broken catch

what has happened is that the ridiculously flimsy plastic that the catch spring pushes against has snapped off. I tried getting it plastic welded but still too weak finaly I took off the door unscrewed the transparent central part(remembering to keep the little black plastic rod at the top that operates the microswich when the door closes then snapped off a piece of hacksaw blade about15 mm long and put it where the plastic had been. I carefully lifted the end of the spring over the blade and while holding it screwed back the transparent part so that it held the blade in place. Works really well!

Jason, I have the same problem... the catch on my Zanussi dryer has broken. I've ordered a spare part... and remembered how I took the thing apart.
I'd have to show you... it can't be put into words. LOL
Hopefully by now you've figured it out. (Just seen the date you posted this).
