I have this exact same problem. however, i found out that if you go to start, my computer, and click the canon symbol, then click get pictures fromcamera it often works. sometimes you have to do this quite a few times, but it's the only way i can get it to upload anything anymore. i've only had mine for a few months.

It means that the transfer is in process. It's letting you know that you shouldn't turn off your camera - it is busy!

Try resetting the camera in the menu. If that still doesn't work there might an issue with your USB port and/or Main PCB. Contact a Canon authorized service center for assistance.

Trying to upload photos from my canon rebel xt, but a busy signal keeps flashing. What to do?

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Camera or software froze up when uploading to computer

The warning about taking the memory card out while it says busy is to prevent corrupting the flash card during a write.  Give you were just reading the data, you should be OK, unless it was deleting the files as they were uploaded.  In any case, you will most likely need to remove the battery.  There may also be a small button battery that will need to be removed as well that is used to maintain the time.  I would turn off the camera, remove the memory card, remove the battery, put the battery back in (without memory card).  If you still have the problem try removing the button battery (I am assuming there should be a holder for one somewhere on the camera body).
Good luck, report back if this works or not.

Canon 40D upload photos - camera busy -

When you fist connect the camera, the computer performs an initial scan of all the images on the card. This can take a while with slower cards and if there is a lot of images, slower again. Sometimes an error on the card may even slow things down as well. If you manage to get your pictures off the card, try formatting it using the format option in the cameras menu and see if that improves perfomance. Otherwise a better card may be in order.

Help, I can't upload my pic's to my computer, I am using a port that worked

If you have a SD card, or any other in fact, you can get a card reader/writer at most electronics stores. This will enable you to use a card reader instead of using the camera to upload pictures.

I use a card reader all the time, and never (almost never) use a usb connecting cable to the camera to upload the pictures.
One problem which can arise is that the camera may have internal pictures taken with no card. If this is the case, you can in most cameras, copy from the internal memory to the memory card. I realize that there are digital cameras which have no way to record to internal memory, only on the memory card whether that is a SD or some other kind.

As to your direct problem. Try to reset ALL in the internal menu.

I posted with the same problem. I was reading the software guide that came with my camera. I ended up going to the menu on the camera and setting the camera's communication. It worked! I can now upload my pictures to my computer again.
