Question about Dell Inspiron 5100 Notebook

1 Answer

Hi I have an MPC Transport T2200 Laptop. I am running Windows Xp Pro sp2. I have a Samsung CDRW/DVD SN324F burner player. I can read and burn CD's fine, I can't read dvds, or movies. I had tried a couple of registry fixes posted on the web but these didn't work. Trying to figure out if there is a driver update for this, but couldn't find it on the web. Or can you recommend a reliable replacement DVD burner for this laptop? thanks, Michael Breskin email: michebre@optonline.net 516-285-1467

turn the laptop off and then on and watch the screen carefully. It will usually say something like Press F11 (or some other key) for Restore. Press the stated key while you can still see the message.

Best DVD burner

I understood that the laptop you are using the hp pavilion dv6000z has already a pretty good burner..
  • 8x DVD-/+R
  • 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW
  • 4x DVD-/+R DL
  • 5x DVD-RAM
  • 24x CD-R
  • 24x CD-RW
so ...all you have to do is to learn how to use it ...and for this I recomand Nero softwaer ...even elder versions of this software works great ..and you can make a data dvd with files like dvdrip avi ...that most dvd and all copmuter will playback it..also ...you can burn dvd or Vcd that will be seen in all ...in the matter of the music ...all pm3 players can read data cd ....meaning just mp3 burned into a disk ...and for cd players that reads only old track format you can make them in windows media player ...so read about and use your burner...

OS is Windows XP Professional CD drive will not reconize a DVD+R for recording data. The drive is a HL-D-ST CDRW/DVD GCC4244.

A CDRW/DVD is a CD-burner and DVD-ROM combined unit. It is not meant to record DVDs only CDs.

It will not recognise a blank DVD as it is unable to read any file system.

My dell d610 laptop has dvd/cd rw i want to know if this means i have dvd rw too if not what should i buy so that i will have dvd rw hopefully it will be something i just plug in this is my first computer...

Your built in CD Drive is a DVD player and regular CDR - CDRW burner, this means you cannot burn DVD's. To burn DVD's I would recommend you purchase an external DVD burner, here are some links to ones that are compatable to your computer.

Asus - Good Reviews

LITEON - Also has good Reviews

I have an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop with a Matshita cd/dvd r/rw combo (uj-850s), and it performs all funtions except read a virgin dvd. And I also cant seem to find firmware update for it anywhere on earth....

What operating system are you using? Xp? Vista? Which version of XP/Vista? Home, Pro, etc.?

Blank disks cannot be read for the simple reason that there is nothing on them to read.

If you wish to burn a disk, you need burning software, such as Nero which is a professional burning system, but also a free program such as AmoK / Ultimate CD/DVD Burner / or Sun CD/DVD burner (make sure to uncheck the ads box during install to prevent ad displays)

The above have different capabilities, but what you need is a piece of burning software in order to write to a blank disk, so depending on what you need to burn, you may choose from above, seek out other software, or purchase a burning system such as Nero.
