I dont have genuine windows xp installed in my notebook. what should i do to solve this problem. i dont want to format it or reinstal the windows. thankyou

    Was it ever a valid copy?
    Did you run the validation tool?

    You can probably get it validated by MS for $$$$

You need to buy a valid copy of XP that includes a product key (which validates online with Microsoft). You could buy a copy retail, or shop one of the online sites (like Ebay or Craigs List) and purchase a used copy. As with anything online, be careful who you buy from and make sure it has a valid product key.

You need the install program from Toshiba and should be able to download it from the Toshiba site. The drivers, OS and programs were most likely on the D:\ drive, before it got formatted.

You need to purchase the windows XP CD to get the Genuine CD Key.
You can reinstall windows 2000 Professional if you have CD Key of it, but it needed the CD also. If your friend having the CD you can use that CD and use the CD key which you have.

I suggest not to install windows 2000 professional because this has been expired as per Microsoft and no support available in future.

If you have the original software from which it was installed from you can use that CD.
All you need besides the CD, is the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) For your installation to actually be genuine. If you do not have the Original software/Installation CD, then that is one thing you need to obtain.

When it asks for administrator password, and you didn't have one set, just push enter and you'll be able to continue.

If you don't need any information from the computer, use a program to writes zeros to the drive and then you'll be able to install windows. HDD manufacturers provide a program to zero the drive

Reinstalling windows XP
you need to have the windows XP installation disc.  your going to want to back up all files onto some other drive (e.g. usb) and then reinstall the files.  this will delete everything off of your computer so thats why everything must be backed up.  if you dont have the installation disc, let me know and i can get you the files another way
