I have a very old GE wall mount oven. Original to around 1960. You can take the temp control knob off and there is an adjustment on the back of it. Easy peasy and only need a screwdriver.

You need a new thermostat control. or purchase a small oven thermometer and us it to adjust/compensate the oven temp by lowering the setting to 300.
only other option is to purchase a new oven.
check with a local repair shop on price to install a new thermostat control unit. if the unit is over 10 years old, it would be more economical to replace the unit entirely.

Why does the control panel on my Whirlpool electric range get too hot to touch when oven is operating at 350 degrees?

heat transference and radiated heat at that temp is normal

the stove should have an air gap between unit and wall
not pushed up against the wall
and internally insulated

My new oven doesnot cook lasagna through evenly.

Hi Angela,

There are many different possibilities that can cause this issue. From a faulty thermostat, to placement of the food in the oven, or not giving the oven enough time to pre-heat before placing your food item in the oven to be cooked. I have found that on many ovens they can reach well over 450 degrees during the pre-heating cycle. I had a customer who called because her new oven was burning her brownies on the outside and they were not done on the inside. The customer told me that she would wait for the pre-heat signal beep(oven is ready) before putting the tray of brownies in the oven. When I initially checked the oven tempature using a fluke meter and a thermocouple at the center of the oven I found that the oven was close to 460 degrees when the beep went on to indicate the oven is ready! So that is why she was burning her brownies. It took another 10 minutes after that for the oven to stabalize and keep the tempature at 350. So you might want to give your oven 20 or 30 minutes of pre-heating time before you put your tray of Lasagna in the oven. Always make sure to place the food item at the center most part of the oven. And if you are cooking several trays make sure to stagger their position on each rack so they are not right above/below each other. The positioning is important because it can interrupt the natural flow of heat in the oven. So if you let it pre-heat for a half hour and are still having the burning issue then you should have the oven tested for proper calibration to make sure the thermostat is working properly.

The oven is not getting hot enough. display says it's 350 degrees, a portable oven thermostat says it's only 250 degrees

HI, You will need to check the oven sensor wires that link the actual sensor to the main control board. Make sure that the contacts are connected properly, and not loose, or corroded. If all the wiring checks out, test the sensor for the correct resistance readings.(you will need a multimeter for this test)

The most common oven sensor should be approximately, 1100 ohms when at room temperature. The others may be close to as follows:

100°F - 1143 ohms
200°F - 1350 ohms
300°F - 1553 ohms
350°F - 1654 ohms
400°F - 1753 ohms
500°F - 1949 ohms

If the sensor test is adequate, and the wiring is Ok at the control, this will lead to a failed control board. replace the control in this case.

Sensor location

The sensor is, generally, located inside the oven, mounted on the back wall, on the top right, or left corner. There will be two screws holding the housing on the back of the oven wall. Once the screws are removed, the sensor will need to be extracted from the back side of the unit.

Maytag oven overbakes or burns bottom of cookies, biscuits

Try this first, if the temperature is off contact me.
Put an oven thermometer at the center of the oven and set the oven to 350 degrees F.

Check the temperature indicated on the thermometer after 20 minutes. If it's not within 5 degrees of 350, you'll need to adjust the oven's temperature control.

Whirpool electric range - RF196LXMQ - Will not reach 350 degrees

When using Broil, it is normal for only the top element to work and it depends on the oven whether both should be on or not for baking but typically, baking does not use the upper element otherwise it could burn baked goods.
If setting the temperature higher than 350 does not cause the lower element to turn on, then it's likely that the thermostat has failed and can no longer respond to the temperature set.
The fact that both elements work under some conditions means that both of the heater elements are working at least some of the time. Because of the primitive nature of the elements, it isn't possible for them to just become 'weak' but they can interrupt themselves if there is a break in the resistance element but you could only separate the two possibilities by measuring the hot coil and that would be difficult unless you can pull the range out and access the AC feed lines that go to the element. Obviously, the power would have to be disconnected and the measurement done quickly so the element didn't have time to cool and regain continuity.

My Kitchen Aid Supuerba top covection oven will heat to set temp 350-400 then drop over 100 degree's but still read on digital display 350 or 400

how do you know it is dropping 100 degrees ?
If the set temperature is 350-400 the heaters will work untill the thermostat will read that the temperature is reached - after that the heaters will shut down and the temperature will drop...and after few minutes when the temperature goes below thw set point (in this case 350-400) the heaters will turn on again - this will happen for the duration of the timing you have selected (example 45 minutes)
