Could be a belt (doubtful) or it could be the connector underneath the. if the bolt isn't tight, it could be sliding along the cutout that makes the agitator work. tip forward and check it from beneath/backside whicheverr has the easiest access to view the connections.

Aggetator not moving during wash cycle, why

Does the agitator have an auger at the top, if so you will need to replace the agitator dogs in the auger section. Part #80040 If no auger is present you probably have a broken motor coupler.Part #285753A

Kenmore Dryer 70 series washer agitator sounds like its skipping

Remove the center cap, or fabric softener dispenser (if installed) from the agitator center post. There should be another cap (used as an air gap) under the center post cap. Remove the cap and locate the agitator bolt. Using a socket and ratchet, hold the agitator still with one hand and loosen with other. The upper portion (called the auger) should lift off, first. Then, grasp the agitator by the flanges at the bottom of the wash tub and lift straight up. This will reveal the gearcase (transmission) shaft. the entire agitator slipping? Or, is it just the auger? If the auger is slipping, you may just need to replace the agitator dogs. The following link explains:

Read through the link provided and let me know if you still need assistance. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: If the dogs are worn and need replaced, you only need to remove the auger and not the entire agitator.

Washer does spin but barely agitates

It sounds like the agitator dogs are worn.
To remove the agitator, pry off the agitator cap and remove the bolt that holds down the agitator. With the bolt out pull up on the top section of the agitator (auger) to remove it. Underneath the auger you should see 4 small white or beige plastic gears (dogs). . Replace those and it should be ok.
The part number is 80040

Let me know if you need more assistance.
Good luck!

Maytag washer model PAV3300AWW The auger slips up on the post and does not rotate properly. Ca the post be purchased seperately from the auger or must it be purchased as an assembly?

Go to and type in your model number. The part(s) you may need are listed under the "Tub" heading as items number 1 (part #21001593) and 14 (part #21001530). To answer your intial question, yes, you can replace the parts separately. However, you will need to remove the upper auger and inspect the agitator base for wear or damage to be sure. You may have to replace both parts. To remove the agitator, all you have to do is remove the dispenser cap and remove the center bolt underneath. With the bolt removed, the auger and base should pull straight up and off. If you require further assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

I've got the same problem. The diagram is a bit deceiving because it appears to show the agitator/auger as one piece. However, the bolt only holds the agitator (lower portion) and then the auger slips in place over that. The fabric softener cup then snaps to the top of the auger.

Best I can tell is that the slotted 'ears' on top of the agitator are worn thus preventing a secure fit between the agitator and auger. I just finished putting some hard thumb pressure on each of the ears and bent them outward some. The auger fits much tighter now and I'm doing a test run of clothes. It is holding but I will probably have to replace what they describe as the agitator / auger assembly, costs $53.54. I don't see any other fix but would appreciate further input.

My whirlpool top loader won't agitate.

Ok, sorry it took so long to write.  You listed the washer as a Calypso, but it didnt look righ, so did some investigative work for you.  What your describing I believe, is that the agitator top half (or the auger as well them) is sitting still and the bottom half if moving.  During the wash cycle, the top half is just sitting still.  If this is wrong, please let me know.  If this is right, you have a sort of simple fix.  Remove the top cap of the auger, pry gently between the cap and the agitator, the plastic cap will come off.  When you remove the cap, you will see another cap (sometimes you do, sometimes you dont) it will be white or dirty clear in color if its there.  You can put your finger on the lips and lift it straight off.  Then you will see a cap with a bolt in the center.  Remove this bolt (7/16" with long extension).  the agitator dogs (Sears part #387091) 387091.jpg.  You should see these under that last cap tha had the bolt in it.  Remove the auger (just slide it up and off), remove the dog holding cap.  Remove the dogs, but be sure you remember the way they go back in.  Next is the tricky part.  Take the cap upside-down, and place it back in the auger.  Quickly turn it back over, making sure the ag dogs dont fall out of position (you will be hating me the first couple time, just keep at it), then, with a long pair of needle nose, place the bolt you removed back in the hole.  Take your extension with socket, hold the bolt firmly, and slide the auger back on to the top of the agitator.  Make sure the locks and stuff fit right between the two.  Tighten the bolt (just snug, DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN, you will split the cap).  If all goes well and right, you should be able to roll the auger one way and not the other.  If you need any further help, or need someone to yell at when the dogs keep falling out, give me a shout, and we'll help you along.  Good Luck!!!!!     Jim
