Question about Air Conditioners

1 Answer

My boiler comes on then cuts off after a few seconds. The fault diagnosis pointed to the thermostat, which I replaced. The problem remained. I discovered that when I remove the thermostat phial from its pocket, the boiler works, but once I replace the phial it doesn't. Can you help?

Not sure what a phial is but sounds like the wiring for the thermostat may be wrong. Can you jump the red and white wires together under the thermostat housing and see if the boiler starts? If it does, you have a bad thermostat or wired improperly.

You simply need to get an electrician to check the power supply to your property, with a frequency meter if it tests OK then you will probably need to replace the board on the boiler, it has to be said that the incoming mains frequency is set by the supply system and generally cannot alter but some local conditions can have an undesirable effect, any good electrician will have a frequency meter on his van and will take only a few minutes to test.

Altech thermostat rf

In order to heat whatever medium it heats. Example, if the system is hot water, that hot water will cool below the boiler's internal thermostat set point after it's circulated throughout the house and returns to the boiler. To continue maintaining the preset internal temperature of the water, the boiler has to come on. This is normal operation, nothing to worry about.

There seems to be a common fault with the relay in the base unit box that's wired in to the boiler. If the black triangle is showing, the remote is demanding heat. If the two lights (green and orange) on the base unit are both lit, then it is paired and knows that heat is being demanded by the remote. However the relay sticks and doesn't actually supply current to the boiler. It can also stick in the on position so the house just keeps getting hotter. I've found that a couple of firm taps with my knuckles on the front of the base unit usually solves the problem temporarily, but if it keeps happening I think you need a new base unit (although I think you can only buy the complete kit).

Does the boiler thermostat control the heat of the radiators as well as the hot water temperature? Does the thermostat control the water temperature and the pump - as our pump seems to be on all the...

There should be a control called an aquastat that regulates the temperature of the boiler. The thermostat will turn on the circulator to start the flow of water through the radiators. If the water coming back from the radiators is very cold, a control will shut off the circulator until the boiler can come up to a predetermined temperature then start the flow of water again. If you have a tankless coil for domestic hot water, you now have a triple aquastat that maintains the temperature for domestic as well as the boiler temp. So yes the boiler thermostat (aquastat) does control the heat of the radiators and domestic hot water. No the pump is regulated by your house thermostat. You should take an amp draw on the boiler and componants to find out what is drawing more electricity than it should and popping your fuse.

The compressor will keep operating tell reaches the temperature that been set for, also the comp. needs cut off to stop working, so you have the cut off & thermostat that controls the comp. you replaced the thermostat that leave you with the cut off…please make sure that you clean the unit before you re-hang the unit.

d2 is the code symbol for delay after central heating. and is not a fault code.. however if this is coming on then stopping the operation of the boiler then it usually points to a sticking diverter valve.

Ariston eurocombi boiler not firing up. Thermostat lights all on upto 80 degrees as if overheating. Pressure fine. No fan, no ignition.

The fault occured a few days after I altered the radiator layout and then refilled the system. Intially the boiler worked fine, then a few days later all of the temperature lights light upto 80 and the boiler would not fire. The pump was working but the fan was not. After diagnosing the electronics I came to the conclusion it was either the contol pcb or the temperature probe. As the temperature probe was the cheaper option I replaced that first. The system is now working again. I think this fault was caused by me failing to completly remove all air from the system after refill and an air lock occuring causing the probe to burn out.
