No, I gave up on it for the time being as I could find no visible defects in either the power supply or the controller board, and wasn't sure how to proceed.

Hi...there,
It's open from the front bezel of the screen. But if you are still under warranty...send it back to Dell for repaired... Happy Holidays!

Dell 2005FPW screen turns black after a second ,can not get it back on

this is a fairly common problem. The backlight circuit is probably shot. Not much to do but replace the monitor.

My dell 2005fpw flashing screen

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELL monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

You can have the board repaired for $50 or you can inspect it first for bad connectionc, bad caps, etc.

I have a Dell 2005fpw and about three days ago i got the black screen of death but I saw a blue flash right before it happened. I am trying to open it but their is no clear way on how to accomplish...

brady818, Yes! Getting it open is the hardest thing to do!!! You will need to view some video clips at youtube of "lcd monitor disassembly" and "lcd monitor repair" to see how others open their units. "PARTING" the rear cover from the front "bezel" can be a real hassel. Always work on a soft padded surface! Carpet, rug, blanket, bed. You must always protect the LCD PANEL at all costs!!!! Determine how to remove PEDESTAL first. Could be screws or push to release locking tabs!!! May need plastic credit card, very, very DULL "butter" or "table" knife and or screwdriver. Hint: Document your "tear-down" with digital stills of your progress so you can get it back together without "extra parts" laying around. 12fixlouie

Dell monitor 2005FPW keeps on flashing

I was having the same problem.
I solved it by replacing the two 47µF capacitors on the power supply/inverter board.
I actually removed all the capacitors (around 13) and all checked out fine except for the two 47µF.
I forgot to take pictures or even write down the capacitor label on the board.
They are located close to the logic board connector

The problem you are describing is definitely a bad picture tube.please replace it or the problem you are describing sounds like high voltage regulation problems. The easiest way to tell is by changing from a black raster to a white raster. If the size changes quite noticeably or jumps alot then you have a regulation problem. The first thing to do is check your high voltage while changing the raster from black to white. If the HV varies by a large margin, then you have a flyback problem. If it doesn't, check the voltage at the collector of the HOT while varying the raster again. If the voltage changes alot then check your B+ line. Typically what goes out in this case is a capacitor(typically 100uf-350v or so) or the B+ regulator. Hope this helps.
