Hi Ray

For your polesaw Stihl HT 131 with 4 mix engine you need a fuel/ oil mixture. The lubrication of the engine is realised through the fuel/ oil mixture(you need a superior quality of the oi for the mixture ).Buy it from an authorised Stihl dealer shop.Any other oil is not needed on the 4 mix engine.

Remington Polesaw 10" motor is smoking?

Sounds like either the motor is going or that you need a new chain. Is the chain old and dull and is it difficult to cut wood? If so I would try running the saw without cutting and see if the motor smokes. If so the motor may be on it's way out. If you smell an electrical motor winding smell, it's probably time for a new chain saw. I don't know that I would get a new motor for yours as it probably at least $50 and you might want to consider going to another brand like Poulan. Hope this helps!

Pole saw stopped. May be in motor as sparks were seen when it stopped. Should I try to find someone to repair or re-purchase ???

It is probably the brushes that need to be replaced. They should be easily accessible and inexpensive to replace.

Here is a link I think could be useful to you: http://www.remingtonchainsaw.com/polesaw.html

Power source problem

Gasoline-powered chainsaws use a two-cycle engine (requiring mixing of oil and gas). Mobility and power are the main advantages of gas. Disadvantages include the bother and smell of mixing oil and gas, pull cord starting and the additional overall maintenance needed. Electric saws are great for smaller yard chores. They're quieter than their gas-powered cousins, lightweight, easy to start and require less maintenance. However, they have less power than gasoline-powered saws. They also add the bother of dragging a cord around behind you.

Getting it started

There is probably another little button near the trigger that you also need to push in order to pull the trigger. Kinda like having to push on the brake before shifting out of park.
