Replacing An Ink Cartridge Use the following procedure to replace empty ink cartridges or when an ink cartridge error appears.

  1. Confirm that the printer is powered on
  2. Lift the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover) with both hands, and pull the Scanning Unit Support down into place (A).
Note: After confirming that the scanning unit support is fixed into position, release your hands.

3. Press down on the semi-circular tab located on the top of the cartridge to release the cartridge and then remove it.

Note: Handle the ink cartridges carefully to avoid staining clothes and surrounding work area.

4. Remove and replace each cartridge individually. Or, remove the second cartridge after the first has been removed.
5. Take out a new cartridge from its casing and gently remove the orange protective tape in the direction of the arrow.

Note: - Do not attempt to reattach the protective tape once you have removed it.
- Do not touch the gold electrical contacts or the print head nozzles after removing the protective tape.

6. Insert the ink cartridge into the ink cartridge holder.- Black: the left slot- Color: the right slot**One black cartridge and one color cartridge must be installed in the machine in order for the printer to operate. It does not matter if the capacities (Standard or High) do not match.
7. Push up on the front of the cartridge until it locks into place. (A click sound will be heard when the cartridge is locked in place.)

8. Confirm that the ink cartridges are installed properly.

Recognize ink cartridges

Are the cartridges the same as recommended by OEM? If not, the printer will not recognize it.
Switch off, check if printer still your default. Do a test. If no luck, go to tools and clean and align cartridges. GL

Good Day Sandip920!

Error U163 means, the printer detected that your black ink cartridge has been refilled with new ink.
It is very easy to clear this error and keep your printer printing.

How?
1. Turn on your printer.
2. When error U163 appears, press and hold the STOP/RESET buton on the printer. Hold it down until the printer self restart and initialize.
3. if after U163 is cleared off and appear another error, U162, press and hold again the STOP/RESET button and wait till printer self restart and initialize again.

Hope this helps!

Error U163

I can then help you with your specific problem.

Error Code U163 (Ink Cartridge Empty or Low)

First of all, Yes, this is a common problem.

When you open your printer up, by lifting the Scan Cover, you will see lights blinking for the cartridge that is low or is empty.

1.) A lamp blinking once every three seconds means your cartridge is low.
2.) A lamp blinking once every second means your cartridge is empty.

Using your printer with an empty ink cartridge is capable of harming your printer, according to Canon Engineers.

Until such time as you can replace the cartridge you can use the method described below to temporarily turn off the error message.

Press and Hold the Stop/Reset button for 6 full seconds and then release it? Use the one Mississippi method of counting.

The Scan cover must be closed completely and locked in place. And the ink cartridge must be firmly locked in place as well.

Error code U163 on cannon pixma mp220 printer

Those cartridges don't refill unless you have a way to reset the internal chip. Check online for refillable cartridges or a chip resetter. For priming you go into printer properties and choose maintenance and head cleaning, or choose cleaning from the front panel.

U163 problem

More the likley, your printer's manufacturer does not allow for the use of refilled ink cartridges on their products.

Please purchase a factory new cartridge from the manufactuer of the printer.
