Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
It started when my PS3 suddenly stopped recognizing (only) game disks. Blueray movies played ok, as did normal DVDs. I found a "Corrupted data" file on my games/data section. No real idea how it happened; but I deleted it and did a quick restore. Reloaded all my dowloads, etc. Things work...games boot. But now the Dualshock controller acts...weird. After quitting a game, it would sometimes fail to function, although a quick controller shutoff/restart (the PS button always works) would reset it. In Civ Revolutions, the city maintence screen (L1 from the world map) looks completely different: the menu boxes appear out of place and shake slightly, and none of the controls work - the only way out is to quit the game using the PS button. This also ALWAYS makes the controller an inert paperweight until I reset it. Tiger Woods '09 is playable until I try to use the gameface editor to change my character's appearance...there the interface again fails, although I can O out without quitting. Ironically, some games work fine. Call of Duty 4 works completely, as does (As far as I can tell; I haven't tried everything on it yet) Oblivion:Gme of the year edition. And sometimes while on the playstation start screen, it will stop allowing left-right movement on the menus...although up down movement is unnafected. The controller seems to work OK on other PS3 systems, so it doesn't appear to be the controller, which is only 2 months old... and the PS3 is only 6 months.
Some friends say its a scripting problem and suggest a total reformat but as this would take several tedious hours and a lot of downloading (again), I was hoping there might be a less drastic solution.
Thanks in advance;

Hi it sounds like the ps3 has over heated and this isnt cheap to get repaired neither will cost nearly as much as it did to buy.
If you have had the ps3 sitting on carpet or on top of something like cable box or video or dvd player this will cause the unit to overheat.
Check to see if you can hear the fan working if not you might be luvky and replacing the fan can solve this problem.
If the fan is working then it will need to be taken to repair shop as it is impossible to get the spares for these as the shops can charge a fortune to repaur them.
Also was i brought new or second hand if new take it back they will replace it for you but wont give refund.
The problem with all ps3 is that the fan is only just strong enough to keep it cool alot of people have this same problem even using it on carpet will cause it to overheat it needs to be on flat surface not ontop of anything electrical.
If you need the board replacing this will cost nearlly as much as replacing the whole unit im sorry their isnt much you can do but i see alot of ps3 with this problem everyday must be a fault in production if it still under warranty send it back.
Let me know how you get on ok

This could be the PS2 console. You need to try a different Dual Shock controller to determine if the problem is the controller itself or the ports on the Playstation. The normal problem here is a dirty connector on the Playstation. Clean the connector or you may need to check the Fuses inside the Playstation. This requires specialized skillls.
I have seen where Dogs have chewed the cable running from a controller, and caused the problem.

Well its probable your controlor port either needs to be cleaned out or your controlers wire is lose.I might be easier to just buy a new controler and if the problem persists clean out the port.
