Question about Acer Aspire 3502WLCi Notebook

1 Answer

Wi-fi I have an acer 35021. I have a router and can access the internet via the wireless card, except in a room where there is a brick wall as a divider. This room is very close to the router.....If solid walls drop signal strenght to 30%...why can you sometimes pick up neighbours signals?...Are there routers on the market which can get around this problem or is it a universal problem with routers.

It's a common problem because the signal can get bounced off surfaces and not get to your notebook directly. The reason why you can get neighbours is because most phone sockets are near a window, hence the router is picked up quite easily by your Acer laptop as it has a Signal Up built into the antenna in your screen and because the signal is only going throgh mainly glass and air it tends to pick up more connections than some other laptops. it also makes a big difference if your router has more than one antenna and a long range capability in the settings.

CONTINUAL DISCONNECTION OF WIRELESS CONNECTION
There are a few things that can cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router. 1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move the wireless router away from brick or concrete walls, mirrors, fish tanks and if possible locate the wireless router higher up. 2. Have you secured your wireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? i.e. change the default password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID, and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC address filtering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s to connect to your wireless router. 3. You could be getting interference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders, washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers and computers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, better still connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply). 4. Check the channels of the wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcast channel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currently used but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interference with your wireless router from other wireless routers and access points in your area.

I have a problem with my wi-fi adapter. it doesn't match with the specs required. I can't connect to the net using wireless connection. please help me fix this problem. thanks.

If you have a wireless router and it is connected to the DSLor cable modem then - To connect to your wireless router, the router needsits wireless settings to be configured with the SSID, encryption key etc., alsothe wireless cards and wireless adapters in all the laptops/computers needs tobe configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router and access the Internet via the DSLor cable modem.

I want to know if iam obliged to have *linksys router *to running:acer 5532portable? thank you very much! cecilia

Thanks for visiting FixYa!

Obligated? That's a pretty strong word. I take it that you are referring to accessing your router with your Acer via Wi-Fi? If that's what you are asking, then the answer is, No. You are not obligated.

Your Acer has wireless-N Wi-Fi. So, it will connect to any router (Wi-Fi Hotspot) that has security turned off. (Read: any wireless router)

There's a great program all of us use to locate Wi-Fi Hotspots. And, it's free. Simply download it to your Acer - install the program - then reboot. It works almost automatically.

The program places a small 'Radar' screen on your laptop's desktop. The screen shows the direction where a Wi-Fi signal has been located. If there are multiple hotspots, it will lock onto the one with the best signal and then automatically connect you.

What is wi fi whats does it do

Hi,

Wi-Fi stands for wireless fidelity. The term Wi-Fi, which is alternatively pushed by the Wi-Fi Alliance, a trade group that pioneered commercialization of the technology. Wi-Fi is mostly about connecting to the Internet without physically attaching your computer to anything. Mostly it's about using laptop computers.

A Wi-Fi enabled device such as a personal computer, video game console, mobile phone, MP3 player or personal digital assistant can connect to the Internet when within range of a wireless network connected to the Internet. The coverage of one or more (interconnected) access points — called a hotspot — can comprise an area as small as a few rooms or as large as many square miles. Coverage in the larger area may depend on a group of access points with overlapping coverage. Wi-Fi technology has been used in wireless mesh networks, for example, in London.

In addition to private use in homes and offices, Wi-Fi can provide public access at Wi-Fi hotspots provided either free-of-charge or to subscribers to various commercial services. Organizations and businesses - such as those running airports, hotels and restaurants - often provide free-use hotspots to attract or assist clients. Enthusiasts or authorities who wish to provide services or even to promote business in selected areas sometimes provide free Wi-Fi access.
Routers that incorporate a digital subscriber line modem or a cable modem and a Wi-Fi access point, often set up in homes and other premises, can provide Internet-access and internetworking to all devices connected (wirelessly or by cable) to them. One can also connect Wi-Fi devices in ad-hoc mode for client-to-client connections without a router. Wi-Fi also enables places that would traditionally not have network access to connect, for example bathrooms, kitchens and garden sheds.

Good luck and have a nice day.
rating the solution is highly appreciated.

Youe broadband router is working ok with the broadband cable. So it is configured with the broadband cable. Now,to work with the wireless internet, you have to configured the wi-fi router to work internet. You can see the wi-fi connection but unless & untill you will configure wi-fi router it must not work or if before it was working with the wi-fi then you can check the wi-fi router setting because it might change by mistake.Surely it will work after configurating wi-fi router.

Cannot get ipod touch to connect to wireless network

Many Wi-Fi issues can be resolved by doing the following:
Basic troubleshooting
  • Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and then on again.
  • Verify that you are in range of your Wi-Fi router or base station.
  • Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and Cable/DSL modem are connected to power and turned on.
  • Check whether other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
