Question about E-Machines eMachines Desktop PC

1 Answer

Unbootable EMachine My T1440 EMachine will no longer boot. I'm sure it's hardware related since the PC is over 6 years old and I always ran a firewall/av software and never opened unknown attachments. I tried to load the restore disk that came with the PC but to no avail. Any thoughts what hardware may have gone bad or how to check it out? Thanks, Dan

Unless you have data on your HD you really want, i would chalk this up to a loss. If you cant boot up, and you cant get into setting while booting up then you probably need to take it somewhere. Being as its so old, i would consider a new PC. There cheap enough now that a few hundred dollars gets you a nice new one, and i would steer clear of E-machines if you can, there very problematic machines.

Very sorry about your son.

If you can't find the real problem, you can always put that hard drive into another PC to get the files. If so, be sure to looking to a potential "jumper" setting on that drive for it to be recognized.

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS the using arrow key scroll down to advanced bios features press enter check to make sure the first boot device is set to your hard drive

IDE-0 means Pri master ?
IDE-1 means Pri slave ?
IDE-2 means Sec master ?
IDE-3 means Sec slave ?
you can change it to cd if you want to install an operating system

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty ?

even something as small as an electrical extension or a faulty fan lead can cause this problem

a computer needs all of the data and electrical current to travel through every working device and to have an end to be able work properly

motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail check all electrical extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd floppy drives need to have current go through make sure these drives are working

make sure the CPU central processing unit has thermal paste and dust free and is securely seated

make sure your computer ram modules are securely seated with no dust in sockets also Cmos battery has charge with no dust in the socket some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in

hope this helps

I have an emachines T1440 desktop. the front face of the machine is broken, the power cord, and the wires from the power cord to the power supply box. What type of case or tower can i use the remaining...

Luckily, eMachine uses a generic system board. You can purchase a case from any computer store. The only thing to watch for is the plate in the rear of the motherboard, make sure it matches your ports. Again I believe you can use the one from your eMachine.

I was restoring my computer with the recovery disc and it came up with a black screen that says...non operating disc or disc error. How can I fix this?

This means your computer is trying to boot from an unbootable source, try the recovery again (it might have not ended successfully last time and rendered the HD unbootable), be sure there are no other CDs or floppys or usb drives attached to the computer.

I have an emachine that is 5 years old. Always

YOUR PSU (POWER SUPPLY UNIT) MAYBE THE CULPRIT. If the power to your cable which fits the computer is ok, then the supply unit is usually at fault. You can buy these pretty cheaply on ebay and they are very easy to fit, or if you are not into that find a mate who can! beleive me... its pretty easy.

EMachine T1440 will no boot on

There is a battery inside the pc, remove it and replace it with a new one. Leaving it unplugged for that long taxes the battery too much. This should help and also plug everything in and reset the power switch on the back.

Emachine boots to bios with a new hard drive installed

Go inside to your BIOS menu then set the BOOT sequence to CD as the first boot so when your PC with the operating system installation disk inside it will load the installation wizard.
Good luck hope that helps........
