RCA DCW615R WIRELESS Cable Gateway , Factroy Installed Firmware needed.

RCA DCW615R WIRELESS Cable Gateway , Factroy Installed Firmware needed. Comcast Flashed my Modem so now I can't set my own WEP keys ,but can only use Passphrase to randomly generate them. So I need the firmware to reflash the modem to factory reset. Holding Rest during power on doesn't do it! From the Comcast Gateway Status Screen: Vendor Name: Thomson Hardware Version: 1.4 Serial Number: 85022321682112 Firmware Version: ST49.04.0Bc Operating Mode: Residential Gateway

I ended up replacing it with a Motorola SB4100 Cable Modem which has is flashable by it's USB port and I got the firmware for it to reflash if they do anything to it. Maried it to the Cisco Dlink WRT54G Switch Router which has Open Source Linux Firmware....
Anyone wanta buy a RCA Comcast based Firmware Router? $20.00 Includes shipping anywhere in USA!

How do you get the wireless to work again? This sounds like it happened to me. Only works as a modem now. RCA won't help. Nor comcost.

  • Wes Miller Jan 08, 2008

As per above: They supplied me with the user name and password.

What was the Name and Password they supplied you with?

I tried the 8 Sec Reset button and it still came up to the comcast page, I can not get to the security page. All I can do is set up my wireless by Passphrase and look at the modem settings, but can change nothing!

I since went to a Motorla modem and seperate router, but to sell the RCA on Ebay I would need it back to a factory firmware instead of Comcast's own...The Rat Bastards!

    Thanks Wes

I had the same issue with my RCA DCW615R. First time my ISP Comcast flashed it back to the old version. This time I could not find anyone who new how to do that. I used to have the software and I have searched the net. Seems they provider RCA does not have it.

This time I called Comcast because I noticed that the brought me to their software update. They supplied me with the user name and password. I was able to get into the firmware and change all the settings using the new firmware. I think the only reason they gave it to me is because my printer is a network printer and it would not work unless I could access the firmware.

The old does not work anymore because that was Cable Modem mode or CM mode. The new address does work but you will need the user name and password from your ISP, this is RG mode or residential gateway mode.

Liked the old firmware better but they both do the same thing. Seems the Gateway works better with the new update. Still I would like to find the old firmware not sure why RCA doesn’t have it.

    Username Comcast

    Password 1234

  • jjmack Oct 03, 2008

Comcast Firmware is on the RCA DCW615R because RCA no longer supports it. Log in using username is comcast password is 1234.

If you deal with your ISP ( my ISP is Comcast) they have flash your firmware to a newer version from them. You will need to access login in using the login in name and password they give you, if they give it to you. Then you can change all the settings just like you use to but using the new firmware update. In order for you to go to the old you would have to have them flash it back to the old firmware and you won't find to many people at your ISP who know how to do this. My DCW615R is working better with the new firmware. I happen to find someone who would give me the password because my printer goes through the gateway using the network.

You will also find that hitting the reset button will not fix your issue. I tried searching the network for the old firmware, I had it at one time, but it is no where to be found.

Well okay, if you truely want to reset the modem back to the dafult factory settings, follow these steps:
Path #1
1.) Unplug the modem from the power cord (on the modem, and not on the outlet).
2.) Hold/Pin down the reset button for 8 secs (should be in the back with a little hold, too small for a human finger, so find something sharp in order to poke it).
3.) Plug your power cord back into the modem.
4.) And it should work, but since you said that method still does not work, then follow Path #2.

Path #2
1.) If you are able to log onto your router's ip address and information screen, ( then you should be able to reset the modem without pressing the reset button on the back.
2.) Once logged on to your router's homepage, go to the top left of the screen, you will see a tab that says, "Status", go to it.
3.) Once there, look at the left side about mid-page and click on "Security".
4.) And where you see, "Restore Factory Defaults?" with a yes or a no button?, click yes and finally click "Apply" button.
5.) Your done!

The Rca DCW615R

You didn't say who your cable internet provider is, and many (or most, including Comcast) such providers require that the cable modem's MAC address be registered with their network. It's a security feature to prevent unauthorized (read: unpaid) users to access their network. The MAC address is usually found on a sticker at the bottom or rear of your modem. Write it down, then call your cable company's tech support the register it. It should work just fine after that.
