I have a 4GB Kingston card that I use in a new fujifilm finepix Z camera.
Whilst using camera the card seemed to have wiped itself .. after putting card in computer two files have appeared (both are empty), in the DCIM file, with the following file names ║ωUS\▓E+.┤o and >v°÷╢F9.╝j$
I cannot delete these files from the card. Also two other files have appeared that were not there before 001_FUJI and 101_FUJI .
I'm guessing I've lost all my daughters 3rd birthday pictures and video :( I have only had this card since June 26th 2008). This problem should be covered by the warranty right?
Thanks for your advice and input .. as I am not coumputer savay .. a reply in laymens terms would be best :P

I have had this happen when I had a bad SD card inserted, especially when taking movies. Try a different SD card. I had some brand name (Kingston) cards not work well. The camera says it needs Class 4 speed rated cards, I tend to go with faster cards to avoid issues. I use class 6 or class 10 SD cards.
You may have improver card fitted. Please remove and re fit the card. If problem persist , please try another good / new card. If you have no problem with new card, your existing/previous card is broken.
The S7000 cannot handle cards larger than 2GB.
If you need 4GB you can also fit a 2GB type 2 compact flash card which is the american standard.
For europe you will get a type 1 card this will also fit it is just slightly thinner.
Easiest way to fix the problem is to "format" the card using the set-up menu. Follow the steps from the menu to the format setting. That will erase everything on the card, including any images that are on it. It will also wipe out any bad or corrupt data that may be preventing the camera from reading it properly. It's pretty common.
