Hi, Please check the following.

  1. Either the cable that connects the screen to the main circuit board has dirty contacts.
  2. Perhaps the conenctor on the screen cable has become loose due to a jolting of the tomtom.
  3. I have seen very similar problem on tomtom's before caused due to corrupted data on the SD card. This might seem an unusual and almost impossible simptom but I have see it several times. Try reinstalling the software from a backup you made earlier .
Good luck.

Half of the screen is not working

It sounds like a hardware problem. You need to have Garmin look at it. Check out the terms to any warranty first. If you bought it recently take it back to the store you bought it from.

I have the C80 system networked thru the E55058 SeaTalk. After sitting for a month without being used it now will not boot...message on AutoPilot screen reads "STLK failed" and I cannot get any fix or...

Hi, well in my professional opinion with what i call "Mission critical" devices, you should NEVER EVER take chances. If it has failed now, then when you are half way across the Indian Ocean it may fail again. Your life may very well depend on an instrument like this. If it were me.. I would spare NO expense and simply replace it. I would never ever trust a Repaired device, I am speaking from 35 years of experience. Replace it now.

I have a tomtom g 910 and the screen is so dark you can not read it. Can you help me? I have replaced the battery and that did not help.

You can change this by trying Preferences and then click the arrow until you reach night colours and day colours, click on the day colours, or if you dont have a manual for this unit please feel free to email me on and i can email you a pdf file which will explain everything you need to know about your unit, Colin.

Ihave aproblem with a435i gps unit, the other week my boat battery failed which caused weird things to show up on the screen, now the lat/long readings and sog in nm are frozen in time with nothing changing...

On Sat 21 Nov I disconnected the unit and checked to make sure no pins had snapped off inside the connection port, I then connected the unit to a spare power cable in the garage(it has an in-line fuse and ac adaptor fitted), powered on the unit then scrolled thru the various menus powered off unplugged the unit, then re-connected it back in the boat and went for a cruise up the local river yesterday Sun 22 Nov and the unit worked fine, so my guess is a good as anyone's as to how it was fixed, most electrical appliances have gremlins of some kind, could have been low power from the old battery(replaced it), I definately checked and re-checked the connection though, mine are covered in vicks vapour rub (a suggestion from Navcom - local dealer for raymarine).cheers and many thanks

Tom tom wont turn on

Have you tried the hard reset? Depending on your model, it'll either be a small pin hole underneath the unit - or if this can't be seen, you hold the 'on/off' button in for 15 seconds. Assuming there's some charge in the internal battery, this will cause the unit to hard reset, and if it's not faulty, should restart over again.
