After an indeterminate amount of time my eTrexLegend locks up with only the vertical drive, a solid vertical line displays, and all button functions become inoperable including the power switch. To escape from this I remove battery power. A buddy with the same model is experiencing the exact same problem with his. Any idea what's causing this? I have not yet contacted Garmin.

A bad ground, bad solder connection or a blown coil driver that handles bundles of pixels can knock out paths as each pack drives about an eight or so of your screen horizontals and vertical pixel lines. Wear gloves and try gently pushing on the circuit boards on the sides and on the metal framing to see if it needs a shim to improve grounding or other contact. Use plastic or wooden shims.
It lost Vertical sweep either due to open fuse resistor feed the Vertical output circuits, failed vertical/oscillator IC, failed Vertical york (on the neck of the picture tube). Those are what you need to check. This is CRT TV, the repair shop will charge at lest $35 to tell you what I just indicate, to repair it iwll more likely to be in $100 range.
Please leave rating if it helps.
Horizontal line WITH SOUND is only vertical output stage problem.horizontal line without sound is osc problem. So kindly verfy that.If h line with sound then
check vertical ic and ver supply voltage.
If the line is horizontal (it is a vertical problem) If its a Vertical line (it a horizontal problem) So it could be just a bad solder joint or a component has failed in the horizontal or vertical section. Hope this is helpful.
If what you are trying to say is that you have a 1/4 inch horizontal line across your screen, this means that something in your vertical deflection circuit has failed. This could be the vertical oscillator, the vertical output processor, the vertical coupling capacitor, or the vertical section of the yoke transformer.
If what you are talking about is a vertical line from top to bottom then you are possibly talking about a failed horizontal section of the yoke transformer.
Why so little about the horizontal section of the yoke? That is because if the horizontal section fails completely then you would lose high voltage and no line would be present because you would not have raster (screen light).
In any even check the yoke transformer first. Then work back from there.
Check capicitor in vertical hold circuit. You should have solid knowledge of electronics repair before attemping repair. TV's can emmit harmful radiation, and produce voltages up to or in excess of 30kV.
Helping you with questions and issues you may encounter with computer LCD displays. ... you would receive a solid black line going vertical or horizontal.

i have panasonic sophia tv 29" i have white horizontal line on middle of screen i know i have to solder ic but where is the ic located on main circuit board. thankx
