To replace the bottom in the steamer basket on a Cook's Essentials 3-tier steamer model 97500, you can follow these steps:
Disassemble the steamer by removing the lid and the baskets from the base.
Locate the bottom of the steamer basket that needs to be replaced. It may be attached to the basket with clips or other fasteners.
Use a flat-headed screwdriver or another tool to gently pry the bottom of the steamer basket away from the rest of the basket. Be careful not to damage the basket or the bottom as you do this.
Once the bottom of the steamer basket is free, remove it from the basket and set it aside.
Take the new bottom for the steamer basket and carefully fit it into place in the basket. Make sure that it is properly aligned and securely attached to the basket.
Once the new bottom is in place, reassemble the steamer by placing the baskets back into the base and attaching the lid.
Test the steamer to make sure that the new bottom is functioning properly and that the steamer is working correctly.
If you encounter any difficulty during this process, it is recommended that you consult the instruction manual for your Cook's Essentials steamer or contact the manufacturer for assistance.
Basket sits inside and food goes on basket. Use some greaseproof paper under food if it is sticky, then fill water up to just below the steamer basket but not touching it.
Rinse the
chicken and pat it dry. If you are short on time then you can cut your chicken
into smaller pieces. Place the steamer basket on top of a pot of water. It
should be about half way full and the chicken shouldn't be immersed into the water
but it's ok if it's touching a bit.
If you want
to add to the flavor, you can add things to the water such as herbs, spice,
lemon slices etc
Use a food
thermometer to see when the chicken is cooked (it needs to reach at least 165
degrees).
Eat it fresh
and hot with a salad or a starch like
sweet potatoes.
I would not recommend replacing just the plasic basket, too expensive. Once the plastic parts begin to fail, the uint has seen better days (our basket was still ok, but the unit started to leak out the bottom and the timer would stop during the steaming).
Bought a replacment B&D Handy Steamer, oval shape allows longer food items to be steamed (approx 10"x8"), water res & can be filler while steaming. Price was $25 in local hardware (Jan 09). Not worth fixing the old one IMO.
you need a steamer basket or "fold out fan looking tray" it needs to sit Off the bottom of the cooker, try 1 cup water 1st , it will depend on what your steaming, so check food after 4- min
Here's some information I came across to give you some idea of how it works. Easily steam all kinds of food, from veggies and rice to seafood and
meats, with this electronic double-decker 8-quart-capacity food
steamer. Thanks to its transparent water-level indicator and adjustable
60-minute timer with digital time display and audible timer tones,
cooking food according to individual preferences is simple. The unit
provides two transparent steaming bowls, a 4-cup rice bowl, and a
juice-catching tray. The steamer's middle divider is removable to
maximize capacity, while its rapid-steam function provides added
timesaving convenience. Other useful features include a simple "on/off"
button, "more/less" time control, an "on" indicator light, and
easy-grip handles. The two-tiered 8-quart oval food steamer measures
14-1/2 by 10 by 10-1/2 inches.
