SOURCE: engine light comes on every 3-4 months: Small Valve Leak Code P___?

something may have. if the problem is fixed, the light goes out after a certain amount of start stop cycles. so the original problem looks like has reaccured since it was never repaird eh? did they say what a "small valve leak" means? is the code still the same? if so, i would say there is a small valve leak............lol..........i think discnecting the battery for period of time and reconnecting wil reset the computer. this is probably what the shop does anyway and calls it reflash for 140$.

    hope this was helpful...............doug

    SOURCE: engine light flashing

in a dark area/at night, take a spray bottle w/water and mist the engine all around the cap, coil, wires. watch for arching, flashing.

SOURCE: whiledriving the revs drop, and there is no drive, then stalls

Well it's possible that when the mechanic sprayed your engine he may have also used cold water or lukewarm water to rinse it. Or the silicone itself was cold coming from the can. If the coil/coil packs were hot at the time, or the ignition module was, it is likely that the cold liquid(s) spraying on the hot electronics may have cracked either the coil magnet or the ignition module causing them to fail. Repeated misfiring from damaged coils or ignition modules can cause failure at the rotor and distributor cap by constant crossfiring inside. You'll want to remove the distributor cap and look inside for evidence of burnt, broken, or cracked electrodes. If they appear blackened or melted/burnt you will definitely need to replace the cap and rotor. Before replacing them however, you may want to take a close look at your coil or coil packs and the ignition module. One way to check the coil to see if it is cracked is this: Place the vehicle in a darkened area or wait til it is dark out if you can't move it. Since the vehicle isn't running everything should be cold so this test won't damage anything any further. Fill a spray bottle with warm water. Spray a mist of water on the coil. Have an assistant crank the engine and watch in the dark the area of the coil. If you see a lot of arcing or a halo like effect of electricity you will know the coil magnet is likely damaged. If not, it is probably ok but you'll want to have the ignition control module tested. You can probably have this done at a reputable parts dealer or garage who have the correct electronic test devices. If both the coil and the ignition control module check out ok, go ahead and replace your cap and rotor then try starting her up. Anything that tests bad obviously must be replaced first to get it running and to prevent further damage to the ignition system. If you are getting no spark it is most likely the coil, second most likely the ignition control module. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

SOURCE: engine skipping/misfiring, engine light flashing

Drive it into a dark place, or wait till dark. When it's running poorly, see if you can see any spark flying around. It sounds like plug wires.

I acclerated quickly in my 2003 VW Beetle & the check engine light came on. It's not flashing, just steady. The manuel said the light would go off once the engine idle steadied, but it did not.

that could be an over boost trouble code thrown by the MAP sensor alot of the ford powerstroke trucks do it and sometimes the light comes on and then goes right off other times it will stay on for a few days nothing to really worry about as long as everything is working as it should hope this helps

Check engine light comes on only sometimes and it on off again is there a code now or dose it have to stay on

No you should be able to pull it. You only need a paper clip to pull it of that
Finder the connector in this picture under the driver side of the dash. With the key in the on position but the engine NOT running put the paper clip in the A and B slot (top 2).
Now the code will blink through the engine light. The first code will be 13. 1 flash STOP and 3 flashs then STOP. It will do that 3 times. After nujmber 13 that will be the problem code.
Come back and post and I will help more.
