Hello,

Each phone needs it's own set of wires to the main control unit. You cannot use splitters or connect a new jack up to another jack like home phones can. Do not connect your phone directly to the phone company's phone line. It will not work and a ring signal will break your phone.

The phone you have (kx-t7431) can work on one of several different Panasonic phone systems so your first step is finding out which model control unit you have.

Some of the smaller systems you can plug phones directly into them but the larger systems need a phone jack terminated at a punch down block.

Once connected your phone should work with the default settings. If you need it to ring at special times or with special phone lines then you'll have to do some system programming.

If you want to tackle this yourself you will probably need to obtain an "installation & programming" manual for your specific system.

I've a Panasonic single set cordless KX-TG3711BX. I wanted to add a second handset to this system. So I've two questions: one, is the cordless able to handle a second handset at all? And if so, what model...

According to the specifications sheet, you can add the KX-TGA371 handset to the KX-TG3711BX cordless system. The handset comes in black or platinum silver. The specification sheet is available here: http://www.mcadvance.com/pdf/kxtg3711-12-21-22bx.pdf . ManualsLib has the manual for the KX-TG3711BX here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1137517/Panasonic-Kx-Tg3711bx.html .

However, I only found one site listing the KX-TGA371BX handset. The site, https://www.pabxlao.com/products/cordlessphone/kx-tga371bx-detail , did not have an obvious option for ordering the handset.

I hope this helps.

Does the panasonic kx-t7431 phone work with caller id waiting feature?

No. CW CID is a function of the system the phone is plugged into. A TD system doesn't have it.

I currently use a Panasonic KX-T7431 at work and I wnat to either know does it have an answer machine function within the phone or can I buy one to add to it , we cusstenly do not have any faciity for...

Generally, a 7431 phone plugs into a Panasonic KX-TD phone system cabinet. The 1232 starts as an 8 line 16 phone cabinet, the 816 a 4x8, and the 308 a 3x8. To those systems, you can add a TVx Panasonic brand voice mail system, or even a plain old ansering machine. Both would need to be probrammed by someone familiar with ringing and intercept groups in system programming.

A quick call to your Panasonic installer or dealer would be the best, as it's beyond the scope of this forum to provide instructions.

How do I put the answering machine on my Panasonic KX-T7431?

For both of you, the answer isn't easy....unless it's already set up in the sytsem and you just have to dial the magic number :-)

Depending on how it was installed, the Pana TD system has either automatic or manual switching to DAY/NIGHT mode. If your NIGHT program is set up to send calls to voice mail, you can just put the system in nights by dialing 781 on the intercom, and I think in a TD you can do that from any phone. 780 returns it to days. IIRC the * button on a idle display phone will tell you what mode the system is in, as well as when you dial the 78x codes, it will beep once if it changes or twice if it was already in that mode.

If none of this works, or you already have Auto D/N switching set up and it doesn't or never worked, it's going to require some system programming. Your friendly Pana installer will be happy to do that for you.

Problem with extension and voicemail

1. Can be done but you have to have installer access to the system. You could also move the extensions at the phone system.

2. Is his call forwarding set (720x 165 #)? 720 sets forwarding for both intercom and outside calls.

Call Screening

If you have a Panasonic Voice Mail system, you can set it up in your mailbox options. Since Panasonic made/makes several voice mail systems, it's better if you know which one, but try option 4 then 1 then 2 to turn on call screening. When a user calls in and keys that mailbox, you get the lovely "record your name at the tone" prompt. Pretty friendly, huh?
