Re: needing toshiba m55-5135 recovery disk
You can get by without a Recovery disk, this contains among other things as well as device drivers.for your model laptop.
Go to a working computer and go to Toshiba's WEB site - (www.toshiba.com) and to download/support and locate the various drivers (ie. viseo, audio, modem, LAN etc.) for your model laptop and version of Windows operating system (eg. XP, Vista). You most likely require these drivers after you install the operating system.
If you don't get sound or your LAN card etc. you will need to install the relevant drivers. You can also check which device is not working by going to Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager. Decice Manager will list all the various devices install and any that are not working or have no drivers have a yellow ? against that item. If you install the driver for that item and it works the the yellow ? will disappear.
You will also need a Windows install CD disk and the product code will be on a sticker on the base of the laptop which will need to be typed in during the install process. It would be advisable to also install the latest Service Pack (SP3 for XP, SP1 for Vista) and you will need to activate the Windows operating systen license.

No, once you install a full copy of windows, and the original manufaturers OEM version has been wiped, there is no option to use a manufacturers recovery disk.
You will need to get a full retail version of windows, or if you are lucky a copy of the Toshiba specific windows disc of the same type (home/premium) and your key (printed on the COA) may work
Hi blackrose696. There's 2 ways. 1.- If you go to My Computer and see a partition (probably D:) called recovery, go to Start - All Programs - and see if you see under Toshiba - something called recovery or restore (you WILL loose ALL your data) and follow the instruction. If you DO see the partition but you dont see anything under Toshiba folder, then restart the computer and inmediately you will see something like Press F10 or F12 to boot from recovery partition.
If you dont see the recovery partition. The only way is using the Restore CDs... if you dont have those you have to order them from the Toshiba website. (they cost like $15) so that way you are sure you get the license and the drivers correctly. I hope this helps. Please do not forget to rate and provide positive feedback from our support today. Thank you :D
Toshiba Factory Reset
1) If you have a recovery partition on the laptop - have a read here to see if you have one
2) This link shows you how to use the partition
basically as the PC boots TAP F8 key - from the menu that appears
choose "repair your computer"
If that option is NOT available then you will need to Order CDs from Toshiba -
Yes but this is nothing to do with recovery disk if it is original Toshiba. Check your HDD as external to see if any partition is inside. If you wanted to install new program, then format the harddisk with external connection. If you had vista upgraded, it may say wrong machine but I doubt it.
whats the orig OS installed on your machine? where do you get that recovery cd's ? does it come with the laptop? maybe you've got the wrong OS/ recovery disk with you. Do you have an XP/VISTA installation disk?
The systems disc is for the drivers and utilities, and, yes, there should have been two discs with the machine. The A45 is new enough that it should have come with an XP disc, not 98. I believe there was a mix up and you have the wrong disc. If you can get the operating system to load with the recovery disc you have, then you can get the drivers at the link below. Some two disc sets will not load an operational system unless you have both discs. Since you were running XP before, I don't think you're going to be happy with 98. I'm going to suggest that you purchase an XP disc, or contact Toshiba, and let them know that the wrong disc came with the machine, they might send you the right disc. If you do have to purchase an XP disc, simply load the system, then go to the link bellow and download the drivers. If you need any further assistance, feel free to ask.
