Fills with water, agitates, won't drain

Maytag model LA5910 (about 12 years old) had burnt rubber smell. Is this the belt and maybe the pump. The motor seems to work fine.

where do I get a service manual or diagram?

thanks

My washer has completely stopped running...it still hums and water goes in but will not drain or agitate. the last few loads made the machine smell like burning rubber. its at least 10 years old and has...

It is not uncommon for the water pump to lock up causing the belt to burn and even melt the drive motor pulley. Tip the machine back and check the pump. It should be easy to turn. The bearing will lock slap up on these type pumps with nary a water leak. To replace the pump you need a 3/8th nutdriver and a pair of channel lock pliers. You remove 2 hoses and 3 bolts.

Washing machine was making noise when agitating & spinning

This sure sounds like a bad transmission. Turn the transmission by hand to feel and listen to it. It should be smooth and quiet.

GE Washer smells like burnt rubber

Hi, timhowarth1
ngafm at your service,

Because it wouldn't agitate or spin at all the belt burned as it tried to spin!
A problem with th coupler or transmission.
You need an experienced and hands on laundry tech or you may make matters worse or spend money replacing parts unnecessarily.

How old is the washer?

If the appliance is 10 years old or more you it may not be advisable to put good money into bad!
New appliances are so much more efficient today that they can save you a lot of money in energy!
Water,Electric and detergent! And put money back in your pocket!
The new appliance will pay for itself in only a few years!

Bless You ngafm

Washer filled with water-then wouldnt agitate and smells like something burning

All Maytags (greater than 2 yrs old) have belts that are prone to wear and slippage. (thus the odor) In all but one model is the belt is visible and replaceable beneath the machine. Simply lift and tip the machine back to gain access. In one model, the front panel will have to be removed in order to replace the belt. This is a good place to start, inexpensive and simple to replace..

Other causes for belts burning are:
1. Failed transmission
2. Failed water pump or debris stuck in water pump....

If I can be of any further assistance, let me know

Burnt rubber smell

the belt is broken. the machine wont spin or agitate with a broken belt. set the timer to spin and the water should still drain. but not spin. belts are very cheap but replacing on could be tricky if you dont know what your doing
