Question about Audio & Video Receivers

Open Question

I have a peavey crossover model cex-4l. It's a digital crossover. When it powers up it reads" host dsp comm error. Then when I turn the data wheel it reads "num of errors 060708 data lines 090a0b. I replaced the memory battery already. I don't know what else to do from here.

SOURCE: Blown crossover in a Peavey

Yes it can be repaired. Your best bet is to locate an authorized Peavey service center and order the crossover from there. Most will sell the replacement crossover directly. The cost of the individual parts will not be significantly less than the entire module. Are you sure that it is the crossover that is smoked? It is unusual for the crossovers to go bad. What is the symtom of the speaker failure?

Where can I get peavey replacement parts for sp4 speakers? Need to replace the internal board.

The internal board is the crossover. Your best bet is to contact Peavey directly. Call them up and select the service department. You can purchase parts directly from them. Have both the model (SP4) and serial number. Because the series has been around for a while, there are slight differences in the crossovers (may not be the case for the SP4, bt was for the SP2 series). The serial number will incidate the "run" and insure that you get the proper parts.

Amp turns of after 2 seconds of turning on

It is going into protection mode, and shutting itself off. You have a short somewhere. I would suggest taking it to an authorized service center for assistance. This is not easy to diagnose, as it could be anything causing the short.

Try disconnecting everything from the unit, including the speakers, and turning on again. This will just confirm that the problem is the amp, and nothing external. Also, try connecting it to a different power supply/socket.

My peavey ul 115 bass bin will only work through its bi amp input. Why is this ?. The other one works fine but when I switch speakers I have the same problem. Can you help please ?..Thank you.

The bi-amp jacks bypass the internal crossover. You need to look at the crossover section and see if an internal protection fuse has blown or if hte crossover itself is smoked.

After few sec when you turn on your receiver did you hear a click noise ? if yes your receiver is OK not in protection mode if no click noise is output protection in that case you must return where did you buy for service and update firmware a lot of update

return to the factory settings, and turn to Standby mode.
Now turn back on and check if it work or not and make sure check input mode such as analog or coaxial or optical input if stil no sound then debug DSP as follow
To set in DSP debug mode
1. Press and hold down DISPLAY button, then press STANDBY/ON button while the unit is powered ON.
The version number of m icroprocessor is displayed only for 3 seconds.
Main:

Blown crossover

Sounds like the crossover is smoked. Unusual, but it happens. Just call a Peavey service center for the part number and you should be able to order direct from Peavey. If you have problems getting the number, let me know and I'll try and get it for you.

Blown crossover in a Peavey Pro-Sub 15" speaker cab. Can this be repaired? If not, where can I get a new crossover? I went to Peavey's web site and this particular crossover isn't on there.

I have a peavey pro-fex 2 preamp/FX ver 1.3 controller and when powereing up, get DSP interface error. Do you know what this means or how to fix it?

Your Profex likely has a dead NiCD battery. You are getting this error because this battery maintains your personal effect settings on an SRAM chip that requires constant power to "live". You can try reinitializing the SRAM on your unit by doing the following:

1. Power off your Profex.
2. Press and Hold the "PLAY" and "GLOBAL" buttons while powering the unit on.
3. You should see a message on the display that reads "MEMORY INITIALIZED". Afterwards the Profex should act normal.
4. If your internal battery is getting low or is already dead, it is going to start leaking (if it hasn't already). YOU NEED TO GET THAT BATTERY CHANGED NOW!!!!! If enough battery acid leaks onto the circuit board, it will ruin your Profex forever.
