Question about Ultra Products Ultra LS600 Lifetime Series 600W Power Supply - ATX, SATA-Ready, PCI-Express 600-Watt

1 Answer

I would like to know how to troubleshoot a brand new Ultra LS600 power supply. I would like to go beyond hearing "it's dead" since I am getting power to the motherboard (via indicator light)m but the PSU isn't starting up. What can I do?

You can start the PSU manually with a paper clip.
Remove the 20 pin connector from the motherboard, leave the four pin power connectors attached to your various drives (this will provide a load on the power supply when it start up (provided it is not faulty).
Look at the 20 pin connector with the connector facing you.and the locking clip to your left.
The fourth pin from the bottom LH corner should be a green colour wire and the next two wires (5th & 6th pin) should be black and next to the locking clip.
Straighten a paper clip and insert it into the 4th pin and into the 5th or 6th pin (ie connect these wires together). These wires connect to the front panel switch to turn on your computer. You are testing the power supply only and since it is not connected to the motherboard the computer won't start.
Now connect the power unit to the mains and switch on the mains, if the power supply is OK the PSU fan should spin up and your hard disk should also spin up. If nothing happens the the PSU is faulty.
You can test the +5volts and +12volts supply on a 4 pin power connector with a multimeter. The red wire is +5volts and the yellow wire is +12volts and the black wires are negative (ground). The voltage readings should be within 5% of these voltages.
There are other voltages to be checked +3volts, -5volts, & -12volts. but these are not as critical.

Hi, i have lg ultra slim tv. its giving continue beep beep sound. No picture. I can hear that sound is coming frm near the coil.

The main power supply regulator section circuit fault. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.
Search the site by type in the "brand name" to your device; in the "Search box at the top right of the display window of the Homepage" to get gathered related posts.

My hp monitor is totally black it was working last night. i tried to unplug and replug it in and it came on for a few seconds then went black again

A lot of time people have the impression that the monitor is not working when in fact the computer is not booting its lighting up but nothing else so its stays on a black screen.

One way to know is by opening your speakers or plugging head phones, if you hear windows open or any windows sound the problem is the screen.

You can also unplug the screen from the pc and turn the screen on most of the time the screen while show a disconnected warning on the screen if that comes up the computer is defective.

Power Supply for HP Media Center m1270 PC

Are you sure it's the power supply?

Most modern power supply units are of the ATX type. Brand should not matter. Your PC used a 300 watt power supply when new. You can purchase a power supply with more output (watts) if you like, but not less. You will have to purchase from a computer specialty store most likely - take the dead one in and compare it side by side with the new one before buying.

Try resetting the CMOS/BIOS of your PC's motherboard, (refer to the user manual). Had this kind of problem and this was the solution that helped me. You may also check if the components inside the CPU tower is free from dust build-up.

Apple g4 digital audio Power supply API-9841

Solution: Replace power supply with a new one. Anything else might cause equipment damage, personal injury or death.

Any attempt for component level repair is not for the novice tinkerer. remember, opening the power supply might kill you.

My suggestion is to have the failed power supply module replaced with a brand new supply by a qualified repair technician.

Forst check F901 in the power supply, if it's open replace it and D902. If not open, check R964 for broken solder connections. The power supply in this unit is very commonly the culprit of a dead unit as you're describing... It's not usually an expensive repair for a qualified shop if any of this sounds a bit beyond you...
Take care Juliet and let me know how it turns out.
