I had a similar problem ... printer printing receipt just like when printer test conducted. I turned printer off, pressed/held paper feed button, turned on, let test run, then shut off. This didn't work ... so I disconnected terminal cable from printer (printer turned off) and reconnected. Printer now works fine.
Spent a while on tech support with my cc processor. unplugged everything lots of times. waited 30 second. ran test page (power off...hold feed switch when turning power back on) Held machine upside down while powering off and on to clear crud. flipped the dip switches back and forth... (1 was on, 2, 3,4 were off) Nothing worked.
In looking at the printout, it was obvious that the width was unchanged...just the height. Problem started when I changed paper...They said feed mechanism was not working right and needed a replacement printer. I had another available and it solved the problem immediately.

Turn the printer on, Press and hold down the POWER button while holding down the power button Open and close the top cover four times and then release the POWER button
It will print a page and in that page just look for Line Number 21 which will say like - PX = XXX XXX is the number of pages this printer has printed till date

When printing is performed outside the recommended printing area, the
top and bottom edges of the paper may curl, the print quality may
deteriorate, or the printed side may be smudged.
The printer has both the recommended print area and the printable area, according to the paper size.
Recommended print area: This indicates the recommended print area.
Printable area: Although this indicates the printable area, degradation of print quality may occur. Note:
Set Borderless Printing to print without margins.
In Duplex Printing, the printable area of the paper's header is approximately 2 mm narrower than usual.
After going to www.lexmark.com and searching, I finally put in "Lexmark P250" ....someplace and it sent me to the download area. You will have to run the program. Don't save it. For some reason, even though it's suppose to be a .exe file, my XP OS won't open it.
don't know if it's the same problem i had but its maybe worth a try. My paper went in a little, the wheels were turning but it didn't take the rest of the paper or print. Yesterday someone replied to my problem, i tried it this morning and its fixed 1st time. Solution:- Use a piece of thin card, a magazine cover is what i used, make sure its A4 size then try to print something, as the paper starts moving push it through! and hey presto it worked for me, everything printing fine now
