There's a little yellow switch on the left side of your memory card labled "lock" with an arrow pointing down. Push it up. Note: If it doesn't work right away, try uploading all your photos to your computer and then dumping them off of the card.  Push the switch up again and it should start taking pictures again.

How do I delete all photos on my chip

Based on what you have said, it appears that the write-protect has been activated on the card. With the card's label facing you and the corner cut-off to the right, you'll see a little slot just a bit above the halfway point on the card. In that slot is a tab. If the tab is down toward the bottom of the card, it's in the write-protect or locked position. You cannot delete anything while the card is in the write-protect mode. Simply slide the tab to the top of the slot to unlock it and your delete function should work.

If it does not, you've got another problem which you may be able to fix by formatting the card. Once again, you cannot format a card in the write-protected mode.

If you can't format it...which will delete any pictures on the card... then the card is probably bad and should be replaced. Cards are cheap and really not worth spending a lot of time trying to solve the problem.

If you can't format a new card, then you've got a camera problem and it's time to call or contact Nikon support.

How to delete photos

To delete individual photos, use the Delete button (cursor-up, marked with a trashcan) while in Playback mode. See page 45 of this manual. To delete all photos in internal memory or on a memory card, format the internal memory or the memory card. See page 66.

I downloaded some pictures to my school computer and now my camera won't take any pictures. Message is Memory card write protected.

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If that doesn't work, try another card.

If your pictures are on the SD card in your camera, many of the sd cards have a small micro switch on one edge that will lock your card... you may want to pull it out of the camera and make sure that the physical lock isn't set..

When I press the menu button I get a yellow padlock symbol flashing on LCD. It is the same when I press the Mode button. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi

The SD Memory Card/MultiMediaCard is equipped with a write-protect switch. Setting the switch to [LOCK] protects the existing data by prohibiting recording of new data, deletion of existing data or formatting of the card.

Check your SD card to see if the lock switch has not be activated as this can cause you to be locked out of the menu on the camera.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Menu, controller and display button locked

It means that the camera is in 'Green' mode. Turn off the green mode by pressing the 'Green' button (also used as the delete button when in playback mode).
