Question about Computers & Internet
I recently downloaded an update for itunes and quick time. Soon after, the sound on my computer stopped working, and try as I might I can not figure out why. Everything seems to be in order, but this is very odd.
uninstall both itunes and quick time, do a registry clean, reboot the machine and reinstall itunes & quick time in XP service pack 2 mode, vista still has compatibility issues so this option might not work

if you cannot reinstall it or it is installed correctly that means that your sound card is in fact broken =(. you will need to replace it. soundcards are generally inexpensive depending on what you will be using it for.

Try another speaker set.
If this does not fix it, then consider the sound card if it is removeable, get a new one. If it is internal, turn off the sound and install a sound card.

I don´t know do you have pc or laptop, and what system you have.
Newest comp. and laptops, need two drivers for sound with win. xp.
One standard drivers, and second bus master for sound. If sound sometime works, and sometime don´t works, you must install standard drivers then second drivers.
If you have some older pc, I think that is the best new system and new sound drivers, or you must look for you chipset and install right drivers.
