Sony VPL-CS2 blank screen - no menu (by 2 users)

My Sony VPL-CS2 casts a nice bright blue rectangle and nothing more. I'm unable to bring up the native menus or get any sort of image or information to display. Connecting video sources to the VGA or yellow "video in" plug makes no difference. The remote menu button also fails to bring up anything. The system only reponds to the power button and the power button on the remote.
