Go to your control panel and under device manager/network adapters check to see if you have any exclamation marks, if you do it could be the drivers or the wireless card itself. Try the drivers first if that does not work then you might have to replace the wireless card.

When first started up, it seems this system is wireless, however now I can go to any sites or download games. Do we need to use an ethernet cord?

Hello,
There are 2 ways that you connect to the internet
1.) NIC- Network interface card. That is where you plug your network cable to.
2.) Wireless Network card or USB - This is when you connect to a wireless network (no cable needed to connect.

How to configure a wired/wireless home network

Hello,

In this guide I will go over the steps needed to setup a basic home network. In this network, we will have a desktop computer, a wireless laptop, printer, router and cable modem.

g33k4u_0.jpg

*All devices should be turned off at this point*

1) The cable modem which is usually provided by your internet service provider, should be connected to your coaxial cable(broadband internet) that is active, and can be anywhere in your household. This modem can also be for DSL connections(phone line).

*If you only have one device you wish to connect to your home network, this device can plug directly into the modem and you will not need a router*

2) Next, you will need to connect the router to the modem. You will use a Cat5 cable to do this. It is also commonly referred to as a Ethernet cable or patch cable. On the modem, you will see a Ethernet port, plug one end of the cable to this port. On the router, you will see many Ethernet ports. The port you wish to use to connect the modem to the router is usually separated from the other ports and may be labeled (modem or internet). The ports labeled 1-6 for example are your LAN ports and normally for computers etc. So, plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the port labeled modem or internet that is away from the other ports.

g33k4u_1.jpg

3) Now, for each device you wish to have wired network access(computers, laptops, game consoles) you will need to plug an Ethernet cord into each one, and plug the other end into one of the LAN ports on your router.

4) Power on the cable modem, wait 30 seconds then power on the router.

4) Next, you will need to power on your desktop in order to configure the router. Please consult your routers manual in order to do so.

5) Once your router is configured, you should be able to access it from any of your devices and these devices should have access to the internet. If you wish to have wireless access also, you will need to setup wireless security, password and a SSID. Your SSID is the name you give the router, and this is the name that will show up when you search for routers within range of your computer. Below is a picture of a list of wireless access point SSID.

g33k4u_3.png

6) At this point there are several ways to connect a printer. For simplicity, you can connect it to one of the computers, and give access to the other computers. The following guide will go over this step,
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Install-a-printer

I hope this guide helps you in your quest to setup a basic home network. There are many factors that come into play and additional steps may need to be taking but this will get you started!

Regards,
G33k

How Do I connect to internet with my desktop without Ethernet cable

To connect wireless to a network ..you need a wireless router or access to a near by one ..and you need to install a wireless card on computer if it has non ..This can be a pci card and you will install it on a pci slot inside and install its driver and after that connect to the network available ..or use a wireless card on usb ..
If you do not have a network free near by ..you can connect using the wireless card to another computer connected to the internet ..or install a wireless router on your Ethernet cable ..and a card in computer or a usb one ..
In my opinion the wireless card and router is the best way cause connecting trough another computer can be tricky and slow..
another way ..if you do not have any other means is to use a wireless modem on usb from a mobile network ISP (internet service provider )
This can be the same provider as your mobile phone one ..

Scaleo 600 how can i connect to internet from modem?

Plug your modem up to your phone line & plug in the power cord. If you are using an ethernet cable its should plug into the modem and into your computer. If you are connecting wirelessly, make sure you card has a wireless network card or that you have a wireless adapter. If it still doesn't work you may have to call you internet provider to make sure the modem settings correct.

I lost/misplaced my CD that installed my original NetGear and I got a new computer and need to reinstall my wireless connection. I have my USB 54 Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 NETGEAR WG111 thing to plug in but...

First connect the ethernet cord from your modem directly to the ethernet connector on your computer to enable direct access the internet. Click on the link below to download the software. After installing the software, connect your Netgear wireless device and let Windows install it. Follow the prompts to have Windows look for the software for your hardware. You should then be able to use the Netgear wireless device.

Can i hook up my xbox to a labtop and get on xboxlive

The Laptop will need to have Internet Sharing enabled, but yes you can plug it into the Laptops Ethernet Jack and use the Laptops Wireless to get onto X-Box Live. This will be slower however, so you will lag playing games that require a faster connection, such as Halo 3 or Call of Duty.

Wirelessrouterstepbystep learn howto setup

1
Choose your equipment wisely. There are many types of wireless routers, and they are not all created equal. Some of the lower end wireless routers are very basic, and will limit your home network to speed of 56 megabits per second (Mbps.) This is really not a very fast speed. If your access points will be very far apart, consider getting a router with ultra-range abilities, or a dual-band router. Also, while you're at the store, be sure to pick up one wireless access point for each computer you intend to connect to your network.

2
Remove your DSL or cable modem from the power supply.

3
Remove the Ethernet cable which connects your DSL or cable modem to your computer from the computer, but leave it plugged into the back of your modem. This cable looks something like a phone cord on the ends, but with much larger connectors and a larger, round cable. Do not remove the phone cord from the modem which is plugged into the telephone jack on your wall.

4
Connect the loose end of the Ethernet cable to the internet port on the back of your router. This port should be clearly marked, and will probably be a different color than the other ports.

5
Reconnect your modem to the power source. To protect it, plug it into the same surge protector which guards your computer.

6
Plug the Ethernet cable which came with your router into the Ethernet connector on the network card on the back of your computer. Then plug the other end into one of the Ethernet network ports on the back of the router.

7
Plug the router's power cord into the power supply. This device should also be protected by a surge protector. If you run out of plugs, it is well worth ten or twenty dollars to invest in a second surge protector.

8
Check the lights on the front or top of your router. The power light should be on, as well as the internet light, the wireless light, the security light, and a light for one of your Ethernet network connections. Check to see if any lights are off, flashing, or red or amber in color. This will indicate that the router is having a problem. If any lights are not on as they should be, check your cable connections to ensure that they are securely connected. Repeat the setup steps if necessary.

9
Install the software provided by your wireless router's manufacturer.
This is it you are done
Thanks .

To set up the router you need in the first place to connect to the router with a wired connection.

Once you have configured your wireless connections then you can continue wirelessly.

I have a d-link router di-524 how do i set security to control or stop others using it to connect to the internet

>connect to the router using an Ethernet cable (looks like a phone cord but fatter, router configuration is not recommended via wireless connection)

>click start -> run then type in the box that pops up "cmd" without the quotes and hit OK

>black box (command prompt) on screen, type "ipconfig" again without the quotes.

>look for the Default Gateway address (that's the router) and type that exact address in Internet Explorer.

>now you'll have the router's configuration page, look for Wireless then the Security option will be presented to you.

>self explanatory setup. good luck
